• CALLING ON HOME SEWERS TO HELP HEALTHCARE WORKERS FIGHTING COVID-19

The lack of proper masks, gowns, and eyewear equipment is making it difficult for health workers to do their work fighting the novel coronavirus. In a recent New York Times article, medical workers said they were worried about how they can both fight the coronavirus without imperiling themselves, as well as their loved ones when they go back home.

If you are a home sewer, please consider helping my joining Hickey Freman Technical Vice President Jeffery Diduch in his effort to produce and deliver homemade gowns and masks to medical professionals in the greater Rochester, New York Area. Read about how you can help here

What's the maintenance protocol for suede?
-If they get scuffed, use a suede eraser or brush. (Some use a stiff bristle brush, I like the rubberized ones... AE has one on sale https://www.allenedmonds.com/shoe-care/mens-shoe-care/brushes/suede-combo-brush/SF583.html
-If they get soaked, let them dry, then use a suede brush to unflatten nap.
-If they loose their nap, use a brass brush to restore nap.
-If nap gets too wild, use a lighter to reduce nap.
-If it feels stiff/dry (maybe you're leaving them in the sun or lots of salt exposure), you could use some conditioner, then follow the "if they get soaked" procedure
-If you just feel you're stain prone or nervous, use AE suede protectant or Tarrago Nano. If you're like me, you'll realize the TS suede is rapello (CF Stead pretreated with scotch guard) and not worry about it.
-If you do manage to stain them and the baby powder/corn starch method doesn't work, you can shampoo them with suede shampoo (I've used wool shampoo when I didn't have any suede shampoo).
-And the number one maintenance protocol for suede is...just wear and enjoy without stressing too much! It really is a lot more durable than people think.
