Your copper pair looks a lot like my bourbon pair. Out of those 4, I like the copper and cigar the most. Cigar kind of has hints of oxblood, at least the faded oxblood that is not so bright. But honestly, cigar has its own unique thing going on.

I actually don't like the bourbon color much. I love my cigar pair, and I think copper looks great.

Serious question: Which AE do I keep (or return)? I can keep both, one, or none but can't seem make a decision for myself. I am new to all of this as I only had the two Alden up until about 18 months ago.

(L to R, formal to casual)
  • Alden black (keep)
  • Alden walnut (keep)
  • Strand coffee (keep or return)
  • Carmina brown suede (keep)
  • Wilbert brown (keep)
  • Wilbert dark brown (keep or return)
My issues are:
  • Apartment living leaves minimal space for shoes
  • I still need a Chukka
  • The Strand is not like the others, out of my usual comfort zone, and I'm not sure how much use it will get in my more casual lifestyle. What goes best with a coffee Strand anyway?
  • The Wilbert Dark brown is MUSA and took some time to find, is great and functional for casual weekend wear especially in the Northeast but is it too boring since I already have a MUSA brown one.

So, do I keep both, one, or none knowing that if I keep both it limits what other shoes I may get to round out the collection knowing that 8 total would be a lot and I doubt I could go to 10. Thoughts, opinions, and conjecture all welcome.

Bourbon is very inconsistent. When it's done right, it's stunning. However, I think copper in many ways is better because it's easier to maintain the color. Bourbon is a pain in the ass to maintain. I think copper was AE's attempt of creating a better version of bourbon. Here's a shot of my bourbon Strands when they were brand new.

Strands and Carminas, in my view. Plain calf Aldens don't do much for me, tbh. Don't really like the Wilbert either. The strands and ptb carminas are pretty different and both versatile.

I am assuming that the brown Wilbert cannot be returned. Cause the dark brown Wilbert blows away brown. Coffee Strand, I would loose. If you want the same pattern, I would suggest you look at the Strandmok alternatives. Woollymok is quickly a favorite of mine but with suede, CXL, and Nubuck, you could easily find a more casual Strand lite. Too bad the Dundee is gone because that was an awesome Chukka.

Added some 54” waxed cotton laces from Guarded Goods. First time buying from them. (They look great at first glance.)

I think they change the whole profile of the boot. Still not a “dress boot,” but a dash more elegant, IMO.

I would have liked to order these (or the Landon) with a flat welt, just to dress them up slightly.

Hahah did you miss my “welt-gate”? I ordered with flat and they screwed up. They offered to re-do, but there was no option to buy this pair (additionally) at a discount—so I kept ‘em (I’m picky about color and these look right to me in ghat regard).

Dinner tonight required a change of footwear. Bourbon for the occasion.

To bad restaurants and bars are closed for Covid again in Suburban Chicago. So I went anyway.
