You’re 40 Strand(mok)s short and still 42 shoe trees short. Are you going to rectify that shortfall with this trunk show?!?!? :fence:

I wish I could but there's only going to be one I don't already have!

Someone tell @ae_ashley that she's missing out on a huge opportunity to fleece me for n x 700 dollars, n being the number of new shell colors we've yet to see in a show.

On the other hand, AE is releasing at least five new Strandmoks this season...

I posted my opinion of the hand-wringing over the state of AE a couple of weeks ago (how DARE they make a sneaker etc), but this is a far better rebuttal than my meager words. If I’m counting correctly, every single one of these was a Caleras trunk show. Combined with donkey’s missive and Ashley’s mic drop, there really isn’t much else to say.

I have never seen AE green shell in person. Are they really that dark??? They don't look green unless you put them in the correct lighting. I don't love my olive strands, because they are too damn dark.

AE's Green shell is a different animal (literally) from olive calf. Green shell is unmistakably green in most lighting, but It's hard in a cellphone photo to do justice to the color richness and depth. Here are a few pics below (outdoor and indoor) that might help:

@smfdoc:

Thank you for your concern. Ordered a shortbread cookie. Cookies often tend to be rather flat looking when viewed from the edge.

Here's a picture looking down at the shortbread cookie.

Roycru, thank goodness you've identified it as a cookie! Based on the original photo, I feared it was some sort of preserved Roman ration found alongside those stalwart soldiers who perished in Pompeii. However, upon seeing the small portion, I now wonder if this is actually the kind of food you normally consume, allowing you to keep your dapper and svelte figure. As a larger kind of fella, I've always wondered how you do it, considering the richness of the selections usually found in your travelogues. But fear not. Your secret is safe with me.

Nice! Do they have any of the same issues with the rotary engine that the RX8 had? Short trips seemed to be the bane of it -The engine of a friend's RX8 had a chance to get flooded and then fail to start if they traveled less than 10 miles in a single trip.

OK so we are 10 days out from TS2020v2.0
What is everyone getting? or are we playing it close to the vest?

Here's my list. Pretty locked in on the first two; last 3 are maybes
chili shell faux-McTavish.65, McAllister w reverse welt, antique, on double JR or (gasp) red dainite
bourbon shell Strand"mok", reverse, buff or natural welt, double JR
green shell Leeds, brown, double, maybe some brass eyelets later
green shell Hamilton
black shell Hamilton

Some good taste here! Now that the antique welt comes with a buff-lite edge, the red dainite would look fantastic, imo.

Not sure if these have been posted yet, but my SA just emailed me a shot of AE's new calf & wool Strandmoks he already has in the L.A. store. Colors are walnut/olive and mahogany/grey. Not sure of pricing, but they look like good RDA sale candidates...

And there's still people saying AE has abandoned the GYW classic line. The olive one looks particularly nice, would love to see one in person, though! Wonder if the coupons they're sending around will last until the Fall collection is released.

Wearing tan suede Strandmok 0.0's again today. As other California members can confirm, ashes don't show on tan suede shoes.

For fans of "A-E In The Wild" pictures, at a tea shop called Josephine.

For fans of food pictures in shoe threads, the 2020 version of the book "Love in the Time of Cholera"
by Gabriel García Márquez, tea in the time of COVID-19.

Josephine will use tea pots, tea cups, and creamers rather than paper cups whenever things get back to normal again.

Sitting outside on a day it's in the 90's and ash is falling is probably like being in Pompeii on the day things went so horribly wrong.

Since I mentioned Pompeii, when I went to the 2012 Pompeii exhibit at the Getty Villa my favorite thing was a painting done by Poynter in 1865, "Faithful Unto Death".

When Pompeii was excavated they found Roman soldiers (easy to tell from what was left of their armor) had remained at their posts.

Something about the idea of molten debris falling from the sky, bodies piling in the streets, and the soldiers deciding that guarding the Roman equivalent of a door labeled no unauthorized entry was just THAT important they couldn't leave...

About a month ago I spotted these Ridgefields in my size and took a chance on them. Sure they looked like the previous owners used them as a beater shoe, and sure they probably were never even in the same room as a shoe tree, but they had spirit.

So today I had a chance to change

They still have many telltale signs of the original wear, but ultimately that's OK. My goal was at first to simply reshape the leather a bit, flatten the creases, etc, and dye it the standard color. But once I cleaned it up, removed the original finish, and applied the dye, it looked a little...
IMG_20200914_234944.jpg

That's not necessarily a bad thing, but slowly a little voice in my brain started chanting, "Burnish it! Burnish it!". That is what I was trying to avoid doing in the first place, but eventually decided to give it a gradient burnishing up to a diluted mahogany. Burnishing ended up being a bit too bold for my tastes, and the crappy synthetic brush was doing a poor job of the subtle blending effect required.

At this point, the choice was made to darken everything and let the mahogany shine through as a sort of faux-antique patina.

From the original photos, the linen looked simply heavily creased. In person there turned out to be several small gashes and loose fibers. While I'm no expert, I did my best to steam the linen, clean it up, and then iron a few key areas. If it weren't for the linen issues, I'd probably get this resoled at some point, but instead I'm just happy it presents well at 6 feet.

All in all, I think it went well and will attempt other used shoe restorations in the future. Would love to hear any feedback, tips, or constructive criticism you lot might have.

I received this in my internet feed today..(so fresh it was written tomorrow! ha. ha.)

I noticed in the photos that there are a few really old inventory pieces. o_O

If you mean the navy Dundee then I agree because I think those strands are green

Oh? I could be wrong, but I could have sworn those were navy. Only one way to find out, @suuteebird
