Fifth Street on a slightly chilly morning—first of the year.

My burgundy shell PAs arrived today, and when I took the first shoe out of the box, I knew that these were the way to go over the merlot Hopkinsons I had been considering. I absolutely love the color.

First shoe out of the box looked perfect, and fit well. Then I took out the second shoe.

To me, this shoe should have been a second. The sole stitching appears to have gone wrong. I could live with that. But then the stitching on the vamp piece appears off, with a flap of shell. Either the piece wasn't trimmed right or the stitching done wrong.

Am I being a little over the top here? I'd appreciate some thoughts on whether I should send these back, or will I just get a pair with similar defects?
Look like seconds to me, send them back.

I would return them.

Honestly, while the sole is a small goof, I personally could deal with that if the rest of the shoe was executed well. The clicking mistakes (fuzzy cuts) and stitching would be a return/rebuild for me, and I'm pretty easy overall.

Question for my forum friends...I used to have a pair of Allen Edmonds Canfields (single color saddle shoes) that I loved, that unfortunately met with some rebar and had to be retired. Is the saddle shoe currently out of favor? Is @Roycru really the only one who is sporting these great shoes? I'd love to replace my pair if I ever get the chance....

BTW I haven't walked ALL the sidewalks in my state, but I'm pretty sure the above photo wasn't taken here. Anywhere. Ever.
I know that some Alden stockists have done some saddle-shoe runs.

You would think that a great American shoe company would always make an iconic American style.

For me in regards to the 65/201 I have to size down a half size on the 201. I have a high instep so you'd think the 201 would be great and I'd get full closure but it's not the case. It may be due to the higher cone and wider heel that I need to size down to prevent heel slip. I also think the 201 is a bit less wide than the 65 but they are close
