I think it is the result of shrinkage. Maybe they assemble the heels in a pool. Or two different material types have different expansion and contraction rates. I like the pool theory.I find this to be very common. They will show that crack but will not likely worsen or pop off. My baseless theory for its cause is the lack of a firm shank. However, I have even seen pictures on the website with the crack. You may wish to contact customer support, provide pictures and tell them you will want it fixed if it worsens and needs repair.
