On a rare trip abroad last summer we were going through security at Bassel, Switzerland. All the Americans in line were reflexively reaching for our shoes. Security dude said, "oh, you don't have to do that here." Same at Heathrow.

So I kept my Wilberts on.

Speaking of which, when it is a casual day and sloppy as heck (like today) and I'm in a mood to not reach for boots (which is rare) the Wilberts are just perfect. Not flashy but comfy and indestructible it seems. Some things just work.

Anybody else feel proud to buy shoes that last decades and then feel odd to buy so many that they could last multiple lifetimes?

I also feel like this is the musical Bye, Bye, Birdie, and we are all perking singing, “shell.... cordovan” to the tune of Ed Sullivan

Just put my wife on a plane to Mexico. As always she left me a box of condoms. I think she will be gone a while, it is the big box.

The preceding post was yesterday's footwear, before I had a proper start to my day.

For hard-core fans of AE shoes at Peet's Coffee, bonus shot of today's Wolverine 1000 Mile...

Dainite soles are loud on wood flooring. My wife says the clip-clop sound reminds her of the principal coming down the hallway.

Comfort-wise here is how I rate my AE shoes, from most comfortable to least

    Cascades with lug sole
    Voyager- either color
Higgins Mill w/ dainite very close to Voyager! And tied with not yet broken in
Leiden Weave - I expect this be in top 3
    Strandmok with dainite
Wilbert- not not really broken in yet
    Park avenue

The cascades and HM continue to impress me. And I’m getting used to the Strandmoks.

What makes the Leiden weave so comfortable? Seems like regular leather blucher to me.... we don’t wear shoes in the house... I’m trying to get some SFOs to work indoors only

I don't even know how to begin to make a retort to this, except congratulations?
