Lots of Thunder, and rain this morning. Friends 6 yr old son wants to go fishing "for Fathers Day" so they are coming out to fish at my house :) Seemed like boots are needed, so Caen get the call.

You have sniped some beauties!
Dear AE, please offer these kudu HMs in the suede Trunk Show!
Suede trunk show?
CXL trunk show?
Football grain options?

I really had hoped to hear some sort of positive news on this by now. Right now it just seems like wishes and ideas.

I really wanted some football grain — especially a Higgins Mill. Since I hadn’t heard anything that confirms a trunk show is happening, or whether football grained leather will be an option, I started looking at those brown grain Boulevards. I put them in my cart, but was waiting and hoping to hear about a trunk show. It was the clearance price on those Boulevards that sealed the deal for me.

Could it be just those with canceled orders were slower than others with their size? That they legitimately ran out of the sub-$100 shoes in their size before the order was fulfilled? (Like Spier&Mackay)

Looks like it. I'm happy for everyone that was faster on the draw than me. Getting canceled sucks.

Truth be told I was ambivalent about the shoe but getting cancelled is so much worse than if they had simply shown "out of stock" when I tried to order

Speaking of deals can you guys actually figure out your best deal ever from AE? I am having a very hard time with my Best Deal Ever. At this point my BDE might be a shoe that I paid full price. But I still consider it a deal as it was less than the other guys price and the shoe gives me ultimate enjoyment. How would you frame your BDE?

Ashley's recent email (aimed at squelching the rumor of discontinued shell) says something is in the works for end of year, but I guess they are not ready to announce yet. Not sure if that will be shell, suede or what.

I rate all 4 shell pair out of the recent Trunk Show as good deals because they were special make ups at normal retail for their cordovan collection, no make up fee. And all 4 pair were beautifully made.

But my BDE was the pair of Navy Macs Ashley dragged out of storage and sold me at a ridiculously low price. Worked out to about $250 as I recall. And it might be my favorite pair of shoes. Ever. Wear them all the time. In addition to being a great deal.

Could be. Let’s face it. The biggest mistakes or should we say challenge in retail is matching your supply with demand. Shoes are really difficult because of all the sizing. You can shorten a belt or tailor garments but resizing a shoe is never cost effective. Selling products below cost is not unheard of in the shoe business. There are times when just cutting your losses sets you up for more profit on stuff you can sell.

I concur. An unworn deal is no deal in my opinion.

Vintage Wing Week - Friday

Florsheim shortwings. No model number, possible MTO. Similar to the Linden longwing.

Fit is amazing.
