Stirlings got here today, and this fits into some of today's conversation perfectly. First, the 201 is a lot longer than I thought, but I bought TTS instead of sizing down, and it works great for me. I can tell that this fit is going to be excellent. Shipping from MN, I believe that these were a display model.

The right shoe was laced all the way up, horizontally, and the left was not laced. I don't have a problem with that. They had a couple of spots that the spit and thumb treatment made disappear. Maybe someone can confirm that from the blue dot on the box label.

My biggest concern is on the back of the left shoe. It looks like the perf piece on that shoe is off center, as well as the line where they are sewn together. WAY off line for firsts, at least compared to other complaints that I see. The right one is fine. I would like to hear honest opinions about this one issue. Send them back, or no?

The second issue I see is the slight wrinkle on the same left shoe. I am not too worried about that, as every other AE wing I have creases in the same place, so I'm confident this will disappear over time.

Another issue I see is the condition of the box. I have never seen a pair show up with a box like this, and if nothing else, for firsts, I would probably have packed them into a newer box with a different label, but whatever. I'll still keep it with the other 16 empty ones in my closet.

Finally, on a separate note, I don't think I'm ever buying first shoe trees again. There is nothing at all wrong with these.

Feedback welcomed, and apologies that I don't know how to put the photos in the correct place.

I would keep. The issue always is, if I return, do they have my size. 10.5D. I doubt it at this point. No one will ever notice on your foot, I suspect you got it at a seconds price $200 about. I guess I am saying if other 10.5D’s are available I might return but if not I would definitely keep.

Could you all advise me how the Higgins mill fit compared to the 65 last?

I wear FA 9.5 eee, Mora 10 eee and fifth st boots 10 eee.

What size Higgins mill would you get?

If anyone has a Higgins mill, let me know.

I am a bit of a rookie with all of this, but I have a 9.5D in a Park Avenue that fits great except for perhaps a tiny bit too wide of a gap in the laces on the right and the 9.5D Higgins Mill is awesome on the roomy side. Hope that helps combined with the more expert info you’ve gotten already.

I'm keeping. I got these on the clearance +20% off, the third pair of boots this month (these were the worst, quality wise) , and the likelihood of running into anyone from this group who is going to say, "There's the jackass whose shoes don't line up!" is relatively nil. I am not that particular of a customer, so even for firsts, so these will be fine.

If you are a 10.5D, let me know if you want to unload anything.

Awhile back someone,I’m pretty sure it was Shoenut, posted pics of his CXL Bellevues to which he had applied AE Cordovan cream with great result. I did the same tonight with my Bellevues—awesome! The depth and patina look fantastic,I took a few pics with vintage Florsheim Imperial shell PTBs for comparison-thanks for the tip!

Very wise counsel as usual from the resident Shoe Nut!

Another example of Shoe Nut wisdom. Have been meaning to shine some CXL this way based on his pics, your pics confirm similar results though!

I would definitely call to see if another pair could be scored. They may have some uppers remaining and could even make a pair- both of my Stirlings required a 4-6 week wait. Agree w @middlepP -- I rarely ask, but those should be (at least) discounted as seconds before I would be happy with them.

OTOH, like Shoenut said, if there were no other options, for $200ish, I would keep.

As clearance sale winds down, I saw things like those shearling gloves popping in in quantities of 1 (@ $40 minus RAISE.com) several times, so kept buying them for next winter's Xmas gifts, 1 at a time. Also picked up a pair of Shannon Drives, which look much like I expected, think they will get some run in July/August.

If MTO is shut down, my AE affair is on the rocks.
*NOT my appreciation, that is through the roof every day.
