After posting my photo of the McT's a bit ago, a question occurred. Could someone please explain the main differences between Dublin leather and CXL, especially as far as make-up? I have seen that AE recommends Leather Lotion and brushing as the best methods for both, so what is the real difference?

    Thanks.

Depending on the size of my collection and how much I liked them I'd be tempted to try, knowing there's a chance I might have to unload them when they don't work. Fit is king after all. Even a grail shoe is missing the point if you can't wear it in my eyes.

@smfdoc knows that struggle well. I've had two misses with shell recently.

Hmm might wait on this one. It's the Shell Cordovan piece on eBay and it's pricey for me to roll the dice.

Recent Cambridge acquisition at sale price -- seconds but in spectacular shape (thanks Ashley!). I expect the gap to close a bit with cork compression, but otherwise the fit is fine.

Thanks for the feedback. While it does bother me it doesn’t bother me enough to return them. I love the color and the fit!

On ward to more AEs. Already have my eye set on a couple more. I’m going to need to start a spread sheet soon in order to keep track of my wares like other members here.

Original was offered in brown, walnut and black. Not sure if there were other colors than those. It was on the 65 last. It had piping (2.0 usually does not). The original has a slight difference in the design below the piping of the shoe. In the 2.0, they added the broguing on the spot below the ankle where it did not have it before, making it more like the McA. Lining is also different from the original and the 2.0, although they are both lambskin. 2.0 is only offered in black and merlot.

Thanks gents. I really lucked out here - again, Ashley is awesome. The 65 is typically tricky for me but these are perfect - at this point they might be tied with my Rutledges for my best fitting AE shoes.

You'll be a small pile of dust before those look any worse than they do now.

EDIT: Thats doesn't sound quite right, but you know what I mean.

I'd have to dig out my pair to check, but I believe there is a leather midsole on the Dalton w/ Dainite more substantial than on the HM.

No the MiUSA are fairly common. I believe the SI started out MiUSA then moved to the DR. I'm not sure if the hoard Nordstrom had were from before the move, or AE made them here at their request. AE had stated in the past that they would recraft the MiUSA versions. Of course, who knows now.

https://www.horween.com/blog/2011/11/04/essex-and-dublin Essex and Dublin are tanned the way shell is. CXL has its own tanning process.

Visual demonstration of the differences between Dublin and CXL in this video:

Well, I came home to find a nice, large box waiting for me. 2018-02-20 19.10.32.jpg
Open it up, I find four beautiful "surprises" greeting me! 2018-02-20 19.13.04.jpg
I started with the Seconds Walnut Strands, which fit wonderfully and appear to not have a single thing wrong with them. 2018-02-20 19.32.09.jpg 2018-02-20 19.32.25.jpg
Next up is the other pair of seconds, the Bourbon McAllisters, which are tighter than the Strands but still comfortable (notice the gap). 2018-02-20 19.44.05.jpg 2018-02-20 19.44.16.jpg The only issue with these are the alignment of the wing on the left shoe with the lacing, which I've shown below. 2018-02-20 19.44.33.jpg Finally are the First Clearance pair of Pairs: blue suede Strands and Brown Oak Streets. These Strands fit just as well as the Walnut Seconds (with the extra red laces a nice treat) and the Oak Streets are a little loose in the heel but I expect that to mold to my heel the more I wear it (per the wonderful advice on this thread). 2018-02-20 19.55.17.jpg 2018-02-20 19.55.32.jpg 2018-02-20 20.03.03.jpg 2018-02-20 20.03.37.jpg Finally, I want to finish with a big thank you to the members of this thread who have answered my questions. This place is great and I can't stop checking this thread to see the latest posts!

Very, very nice -- four very good choices. Yes, this place is "great", but your wallet is going to suffer if you continue hanging around here.
