I know I could get tons of use out of another pair of chukkas, but without trying the MD version it seems they would be a bit floppy for my liking. How do they compare to Alden's version in that regard @M635Guy ?

I'm also pining over some Navy suede in my life, so I'm really struggling to hold off. I'm a big fan of dad-colored denim with blue suede.

Sporting the AE x RL chukka drop for today, which have solidified 4th place in the tracking spreadsheet:

I'm not M635 but I have tried on thr Aldens.

Structure is same. Fit surprisingly is nearly identical.

I can't ever see myself having the aldens (all issues with the dc store aside) over the massdrops simply on price alone. They would sell easily for a lot more money.

DO IT.

Checked out the AE site today and they've got a big promo on 2nds going on - up to 60%. Just as an FYI, shell is listed at $347.50. Independence line is at $265.00.

Prices are not reflected on ShoeBank.com. These prices appear to only be available off the AE home page from the seconds they have linked to that site. Sizes are very limited, but you never know.

Oof, I could really make the shell bradleys work in 10.5 B, someone else please buy those real quick. Another pair of sea islands at $162 isn't a bad idea either. Thanks/nothanks for posting

If you go to any of the gift card resale sites you can get AE gift cards at average 15% off so that makes the Shell Under $300. That is one of the good things about AE abundance of discount gift cards so you can always save an extra 15%.

BTW they all guarantee the cards for 1 year so there is no risk I do it all the time.

Outside of the fine details, they're pretty similar. Since they're unlined and have little structure, you could call both floppy. Frankly, the MD chukka is slightly shorter and more comfortable at first IMHO, but they're both awesome. Sock-like.

Thanks! Makes a lot of sense, I'm feeling like a navy MD chukka might be finding its way to my office for inspection. I like the sound of the leydon last being slightly longer than 511, but I've had good luck with the 511 lately, so I should be good to go.

For me, ideal Leydon winds up being the same as 5-last - 1/2 down and 1 width up. I own TTS + width up because that's the size they had available at an amazing deal, and it works fine too.

511 is great in the MD chukka for me in TTS (12D), and I'm on the wider side of D.
