Great looking Aves ferret, own the exact same pair! AE and the Carmina are pretty high on my great value for money list - especially if you grab gently used or discounted.

Awesome! Well I know the 65 fits great.. the only pair I have on 511 is my used westbrook boat shoes im wearing now for the first time (I think?).. since they are so soft, hard to say how a stiffer new shoe would fit.. but at least i know the hills I ordered should fit well then..

Anyone know about insole, cushioning, sole material, etc.. I dont know what some of the description all means- but the Wilberts seem to have a lot going on- just hoping im not missing out on a good comfort feature with the Black Hills.

You may find the Black Hills do not fit quite the same as your other 65 last shoes. Just a heads up.

Sure, is there a general consensus to size up/down a size or width?

I'm not familiar with this particular shoe. Someone else here may be. It probably depends on how the volume is on the 65 in your fit already - can the laces close all the way in the bal? How much room in the toes? If the laces close and you don't have much room in the toe, my guess would be potentially up a size in both. Or at least your Brannock size if you size down a half I length for the 65 (I do).

A typical 65 closes all the way, with a fair amount of room in the toe, comfortable all around.. really a perfect fit in an 11 EEE in my limited experienced opinion) (At least in Park Aves, Fifth Aves, Strands, and Mcallisters with leather soles.)

Is the Black Hills a derby or blucher?

I have tried both the 65 and the 511 Wilbert. The Wilbert on 511 does have more cushioning with the padded insole, but the 511 is also a roomier last to help compensate for it. I would personally just order my typical size in the Wilbert and see how it fit. If I was to do anything, I would personally go up 1/2 size in length because I already wear a EEE in width and increasing length is the only option for me.

I believe words derby and blucher are used interchangeably. Black Hills is a blucher/derby while Park Ave is an oxford.

@New2Suits , here are pictures of my Wilberts. They are very comfortable shoes, and get a lot beating from me. However, they are not the prettiest pair out there. They do have cushioned insoles, and come with the rubber Othello outsoles, which are much softer and lighter (similar to Vibram Gumlite soles). The Black Hills I believe come with the Toby mini-lug soles, but not 100% sure (photo 4). I personally prefer the latter, as they are harder and provide better support. That being said, I think they are solid choices for inclement weather and general kicking around, where you don't have to worry about what's thrown your way.

Thank you! You guys rock.. So my plan is to get both the black hills (on their way) and the Wilberts and use both for weekend wear.. The Wilberts more for inside things, running errands, etc and the black hills for more outside activities-grilling out, watching sporting events, etc.. sound reasonable?
