Wow! A week off and I've got 600+ new posts to go through!

Anyway, there I was, a week ago Monday afternoon, bored in the long security line at the Atlanta airport, looking for anyone - anyone - wearing decent shoes. Disappointing.

Made it to the concourse train, and as the doors close, I saw a younger fellow with blond hair and glasses wearing a light gray suit. I look down and what's this? Looks like a pair of oxblood Park Aves. I stare a few moments, being an amateur shoe-spotter, but there's something about the quality and rounded toe that confirms it's the 65 last.

As he looks up from his Apple Watch, I nod and ask "Park Aves?"

It takes him a moment to process the question and reply, "yes they are." I point down and say "Bleecker Streets today." That elicits another grinned confession from him: "and I've got a pair of Fifth Avenues on order."

"Concourse A" and the doors open. I have to go.

I imagine he was one of you filthy barnweasels as I walked to the gate... :D

I, too, am a shoe watcher. Unfortunately I seem to see a lot more Cole Haan or Johnston Murphy than anything else. I can see robins and sparrows anywhere. If I do happen to see an AE, it's bound to be a Walnut Strand.

On the flip side, I seem to get a few compliments, but I doubt the commenters even know about AE, or would never spend the money.

Thanks, man. lurking in the Alden thread caused me to fall in live with black shell. I was all set to buy a black Indy from TSM when these popped up in the shoebank and I got a deal from Kristle that I couldn't refuse. They actually seem to be first quality. No stamp on the sole. The eyelets on te left foot are slightly askew, but that seems to be par for the course for AE. At any rate my natural Dundees are that way too.

Funny. I was in San Francisco at a conference last week. Saw maybe 2 pairs of decent shoes. JM or equivalent - no AEs in sight. About 300 people, mostly men, all in tech. It was a sorry collection of footware.

Got a very nice shoe compliment on my Walnut Sanfords from a woman while sitting in the lounge are of the hotel lobby. She was with my group for the conference, so not a random person. Walnut seems to be the big draw for people.

I'm in tech too, and when I go to career fairs to look for candidates for my organization I don't bother looking at the shoes unless the student has at least an ironed shirt (not often). Did see one fellow in a grey suit that had walnut strands at the last fair, but he was talking to my coworker.

A couple folks in my office have some AEs (walnut Strand and PA), but they're not shoe guys and wear them EVERY DAY. You can tell those things get no care.

Does anyone have any pictures of the following shoes so I can see what they look like in real-life (preferably with jeans but anything works)

I have a pair of brown burnished First Avenues that are rather squeaky around the laces. I have done multiple applications of Renovateur and the squeaks won't go away. Any ideas to minimize the sound?

These are really nice looking. I have held off on these, the Overlord, and the Hanley (I think that's the name of the loafers) because of the varying levels of distressing done to the leather. Some people have said the distressing was poorly done and too heavily done, and others have said that theirs were barely distressed at all. If I could be sure of getting a pair like these, I'd pull the trigger. Have you treated yours with anything? Again, beautiful boots.

I used the AE conditioner cleaner and tied them extremely tight on the trees for two days. Rinse repeat that a couple times and they should loosen up.

Picked up some Brown McGregors from the bank last week. The fit on the 10E for me with this shoe is outstanding but unfortunately the laces are incredibly off center. Unfortunate as these would have been an absolute steal at 137.00. I may have to see if I can squeeze into a 10D or give them a run in Bourbon (only color avail in 10E left) even though I'm not a fan of the color.

Ordered my first pair of AE's the other day, as a present to myself for my (upcoming) 30th birthday. After extensive research and deliberation, I decided to order a pair of Dark Brown Shell Cordovan Dundees. I'm really hoping they work out since returning and exchanging things from Canada is a huge pain, even though where I live is only a few hundred miles from the AE factory. Will post pictures when they arrive.

Agreed, if I had just been starting my shoedrobe from scratch when they came out, I probably would have gone for that trifecta and call it quits.

When MTO comes back, I'd like to get a pair of Dundees and some other boot in brown kudu.

An SA showed me the display for the April store and I THINK the Carlyle was in that picture. I can't be sure, though.

I wear 8.5D across the board, including 65 last and my Mora 2.0's. My Franciscans are a tad big, but very comfortable with a tongue pad in them. Also be warned that the first pair of Franciscans I ordered were WAY bigger than the replacements I ended up with, both in the same size. It was the first time I had experienced that degree of size variation in the same style of shoe.
