I ordered the Steen in chili a couple weeks back in 11.5 and 12 as I wasn't sure on the loafer size that was right for mt foot. They were distinctively different. One was clearly the Bob's chili version. I actually like both versions. The lighter of the two is what fit best so now is in my rotation.

Well, to be precise, I was in West Nyack, which was only 20-25 min ride. And, I had to make some returns :) By the way, what's up with all these huge shopping centers 15-20 min drive away from each other in that area? I must have passed by 5 of those. I thought conventional shopping was slowly dying.

Anyone think black Renegades could pass for normal-ass tennis shoes?

More serious question: any opinions on the Bar Harbor?

Theoretically speaking, would you be able to achieve bourbon color by polishing/burnishing a walnut colored belt with black/bourbon cream?

I've been eyeballing the Bar Harbor as an alternate to the Kirkwood. But I wouldn't recommend them for you, if you happen to be a 10.5 D. Otherwise, I'd say they would be a nice add.

It's much easier to go from, say, chili to dark chili than the other way around. It would be very difficult to lighten a dark shoe absent a complete strip and re-dye job.

Here's how I think about it: imagine how much pigment is in a strip of black leather. All the walnut polish in the world isn't going make that shoe walnut unless you just plaster it on like paint. Same principle applies with other shades to varying degrees.

Nah, I was looking at a Shoebank pair. I really like the design, but AE by AE plus non-recraftable gives me pause.

It's one of the largest retail stretches in the country.

@Scarlet Those renegades look a lot better than those gangsta vans...[IMG]

More serious answer - I also was interested in the Bar Harbor but was extremely disappointed with them in person. Material was so-so, the sole seemed very flimsy for something hard leather like it wouldn't wear well. The whole thing just seemed sub par. I was hopeful, given how well I thought they did with the Kirkwood and northland, that the AE by AE had really improved, but it looks like those two were the flukes. If you don't already own a Kirkwood or Maritime, don't hesitate.

I love these boots... very creative with the color scheme. For those of us that love a little blue... this makes me pretty damn Jealous.

Do the Carlyle's normally go on sale when they do their semi-annual? Really have my eye on the Oxblood's and just waiting to see if I can get them without paying full price.

    1. "Military hem" refers to the angled hem. "Full," "slight" and "no" refer to the front break, if any."

    2. Trying to lighten a darker shoe with lighter cream is usually a waste of time. The reverse, though, can be done.

    3. I wouldn't try to change the color of a belt (bourbon or otherwise) with cream or wax. Not unless you want to risk getting it on your clothes.

    4. Respectfully, I think some go too far trying to perfectly match belt to shoes. I think, as far as color goes, there's really no need for more than four colors of dress belts: black, dark brown, lighter brown, and burgundy. So I wouldn't sweat trying to find the perfect chili or bourbon. Of course, I didn't have the 64 crayola box when I was a kid.[IMG]
