I got mine at the blowout price six months ago, so they had to have been discontinued for a while before that.

They're still my favorite shoes. I wear them at least once a week and the leather has aged really nicely. Makes me appreciate the small differences between run of the mill calf and the nicer leathers.

I splurged and picked up a pair of strands and larchmonts both in bourbon. The color appears darker on camera. Some comments about the larchmonts being larger than the 65 last are true only to the width. I am EE on the 65 last but the E on the larchmont felt the same in term of width. I guess that's why they did not bother making a EE for the larchmonts. The strands are notably lighter in weight than the larchmonts. These two are the same size and they appear to have the same length. After trying them on at home on hardwood and carpet, I still prefer the fit of the strands, which I will put into my rotation at the office. However, the larchmonts are saved for the cocktail parties and office social because they definitely are eye candies. Hope this helps!

Testing a possible outfit with my Dundee 2.0s. They need some edge dressing badly.

What's the over/under on the first page of this thread with the first "what do you think of this 'defect'?" question?
And what are the odds that this first question will be about the welt start/stop?

Ok. No haircut. Regarding the outfit, is that a suit? It's hard to tell with the lighting. If it is, it's fine. If it's not, you need some contrast. Shirt and tie look good, but if it's not a suit, you need different color pants.

I got my black MTO (rubber soles) Rutledges on eBay for around $45.00 from one of the eBay sellers who lists vast quantities of Allen-Edmonds shoes. They were probably an MTO that got returned to Allen-Edmonds for some reason and then ended up in the secondary market. You can still find Rutledges somewhere out there from time to time.

It's most certainly a suit. I pretty much never wear suits, but when I do I like to have fun with it.

The Boca Ratons in my size finally got discounted, but now that I've got the Larchmonts, would they be a bit redundant? Could they be pulled off sockless with shorts?

I made a similar comment to my SA this week regarding the old MTO program (that I missed out on). Looking out the storefront window as if a beautiful, now-out-of-reach woman just walked by, in a nostalgic and self-defeating voice he said, "yeah, that's just never going to happen." [IMG]

Not redundant. The Boca Raton is a weave. Should be worn with a Summer suit on a hot day, or in the Deep South. Most definitely not sockless with shorts.

That analogy is spot on [IMG], though I think getting any of the AE shoe in brown cordovan is quite possible during their cordovan trunk show like last year though Ravello is another story.
I waited for the longest time for a SWB from AE so that I can do a MTO in brown cordovan , but when my SA gave similar response as above I ended up buying these from Brooks Brother by C&J which is exactly what I was looking for ....
