Walnut. It's brown in most lights, has a rich slightly-reddish tan in daylight has great color character as it ages.

With that said, I do love the brown for its deep chocolate color.

Here are the three walnut/brown/burgundy colors in daylight:

Did you move the Ashton and Benton to a leather sole or stick with the rubber?

Olive Rush Streets today, for a previous-gen Strandmok Sunday (a bit of a stretch but anything for alliteration's sake)...

    Happy Halloween!

Wilbert is 511-G. Completely different last. I wear different sizes on 511 and 511-G.

What am I missing? Doesn't seem wrong to me...

@jzrhwinnj love that green shell! Any more pics in other lighting conditions to share? I'm considering a green she'll leeds if the trunk show ever happens, or one from Carmina if they offer no fee MTOs at Proper Kit this year.

Is this confirmed? I asked the salesman and he said the Leeds and Wilbert are on the same last. Also, the website indicates this too. I thought the 511G was only for the removable insole shoes like the road warriors?

Edit: I'm not saying I doubt what you're stating, but I'm very curious if this is true. If the Wilberts are on the 511G last, that would make a lot of sense as to why they didn't fit me the same.

I know I have previously made the assumption that AE had a "classic" perspective and that the styles had been honed to a fine point where one could assemble a collection and "be done with it." With time, and by that I mean searching catalogs and Ebay, I learned that I was quite mistaken and that things do evolve at a steady pace. For example, the following was taken from the 2006 AE catalog where they listed the top 20 best selling shoes in the collection.

There is duplication as some styles are best sellers in several colors. Overall, my first realization was on how many of the shoes are now discontinued in the past 10 years.

    Park Ave. Still sold
    Maxfield Discontinued
    Nashua Discontinued
    Hillcrest Discontinued
    Wilbert Still sold
    Stockbridge Discontinued
    Fairfax Discontinued
    Walden Discontinued
    Grayson Still sold
    Hastings Discontinued
    Byron Discontinued
    Burton Discontinued
    Kennett Discontinued
    Randolph Still sold

So of the top 20 selling styles and colors, 90% of them are now discontinued. My second surprise was the range of colors that were the top sellers. 12 of the top 20 are black shoes. My general feeling is that many people on the forum have now moved away from black shoes and tend to reserve this for more "formal" shoes such as the Park Ave. I was also surprised that only two "brown" shoes are listed in the top 20 and only one single burgundy. It just seems that the forum in 2016 tends to embrace other colors such as walnut, blue, oxblood and merlot, not to mention the host of other colors for suede and boat shoes now available.

My final surprise was the complete lack of cordovan shoes in the list. While more expensive, it did not even show on the list. A review of the older catalogs from a decade or so ago frequently did not even have a cordovan section. The options for cordovan leather are simply listed as one of the colors available for a shoe, as seen in the Randolph from 2009. I guess my personal take home lesson is that whatever collection I create should still be evolving and that I should be prepared to accept that a "timeless" shoe actually does a "Best when used by" date.

All the black jumped out to me too, but I think it's just because a lot of people wear only black shoes.

Interesting musings! I'd be willing to bet that black shoes still dominate the best selling lists. Although the tide is slowly turning, I suspect the average male shoe wearer (and even the average male AE-wearer) still tends to default to black.

Agreed about the Dalton fitting short. Tried the variants +/- half size/few widths but settled on 9D in walnut calf. Not thrilled with the fit as they are slightly short/narrow in the toes with some heel slip. These are 10C and I add RW inserts. Fit is perfect for me!

Just want to share my newest group shot/AE appreciation:

    Plus my latest $47 addition:

I found myself going up half an inch bigger when it comes to loafers/boat shoes. Normally 8 on dress shoes but 8.5 on loafers, which includes Sperry's. Just a tip for those in the market and not sure about sizing.
