Any opinions on Strand v McAllister in Merlot?

    Relevantly, I already I own:

If you wear a lot of suits, either would be good.
My suggestion would be the McAllister, if only because you already have two pairs of the Strand.

I'm assuming the pair on the right is your existing pair, right? My guess is that is what the shoe on the left will evolve to.

Apologies for the non-AE content here, but here is what my JCrew boots looked like out of the box in May:

Here they are a few months later after a bunch of wears, brushing before/after each wear, a few damp wipe-down/brushing sessions and just after a pass with VSC:

The point is they looked pretty painted and bland when I got them and they are now showing off some very decent patina and character. Your new Chilis will too...

    My $0.02.

No they are both brand new out of the box. Just big difference. The Cornwallis looks amazing. The Carlyle, just meh.

Well, the Cornwallis appears to be burnished and the Carlyle isn't. Funny - I looked at a chili Cornwallis at Nordstrom this evening and it was a lot closer to the Carlyle. Hmmmm... In any case, I'm guessing in a few months the Carlyle will look awesome too.

Could someone tell me on which last the Shannon Drive is made? I see some on ebay but don't want to order until I know this...

    Thanks!

OK - back to considering the Cornwallis, but I'm very wary of the last and sizing. Bal closure is a crap shoot for me... As some of you might recall, I love my 5-last McTavishes (and they fit great in an 11.5D). They fit great, and the closure is good (and getting better as the shoes wear in). However, I can't figure out a Strand size/width combo that is comfortable and has good closure. An 11.5D is also great in the 201 last for my Shannon Drives, but the Warwick doesn't work because of my high instep (probably also what dooms the Strand). I'm a 12 in the 7-last (MacNeil). My Brannock is between an 11.5 and 12, and I'm a full D. In the Hampton last captoe for Alden I wind up in an 11.5 E (it is apparently tightly cut like the Strand, but the pattern makes it work where no combo seems to for the Strand). FWIW the Alden Barrie last fits me in a nearly custom way at 11.5 D, though they're all blucher closure. I'm thinking an 11.5 E might be the ticket here, but think 11.5 D and 12 D. I'd hate to order all three, but I'm really not interested in having the shoe unless it is a perfect fit. I've got enough weasel and badger pelts on my wall this year that I'm not adding to the pile unless the shoe is right. Anyone have some sizing experience/guidance on the Cornwallis?

Yup - 201. Fits like a nicer version of the 65-last. I love my olive Shannon Drives on butyl.

I cannot find them anywhere on the AE site. They are still listed on the Shoebank site, but they never disappeared from there.
