There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

Return. I am sure you will find it again and AE will honor the price. Why would you want to take the chance?

Frankly, I don't think you can go wrong with either choice. I have two pairs of McA and two pairs of strands and I love them equally. For me, the strand is a bit more unique aesthetically which makes me lean a bit more in that direction. I would maybe lean towards one in merlot and then get the other in walnut eventually to build a more diverse set of choices instead of another black pair (admittedly I dislike black shoes though unless it's a really formal event).

Brooks Brother AE vs Allen Edmonds

Anyone notice an aesthetics difference? My BB model Park Ave's def feel and look fuller/clunkier than my AE model Mcallisters. I know the BB models have the rubber sole, maybe that's adding to the shoe....

I'm not sure about the Park Ave's, but my BB AE Presido loafers have a much more significantly padded insole which adds to the bulk/fullness of the shoe compared to non-BB AE loafers.
Perhaps the PA's are the same?

But do they look bulkier than the AE equivalent?

Yeah the bourbon mcallisters wold be presumably firsts from Allen Edmonds eBay store for 179 plus 11 shipping. The strands would be from the amazon primes 260 price to match nordstrom and with rewards point from my card it's about the same price. I am leaning towards the Strands. I just wish they had the combination tap sole. I feel like the El and the 20 to 30 minutes of daily walking on Chicago sidewalks are chewing up leather soles. I am going to already have a big resoleing nightmare on my hands. Should of topyed my non-combination tap soles.

I love my merlot Park Aves so much, that I think next year, I will purchase a pair of Hopkinson's in merlot and apply the amex deal (if it is available). I might even say this is my favorite color. Walnut is also a favorite of mine, but merlot is just stunning.

I have occasionally posted some pictures here of older styles that are more than 20 years if age and can thus be considered vintage. As a self serving PSA, I want to mention that I started a SF thread for the discussion and appreciation of all brands of vintage dress shoes. Show pictures, ask questions, share restoration information and post vintage shoes you may have for sale. All are invited to come to browse.

I have a question. So I got my first pair of Bourbon shoes. They look like they are a greenish tint to me. Can you comment? Is that normal?

With just hours to spare there is still time for "Throwback Thursday (C)." As part of the comfort series, AE ended the run of Mapletons in 2006-7. Yes, the dreaded "bicycle toe" from which some people recoil. Anything the Mapleton may lack in style, it more than makes up for it in comfort. A padded insole, Othello sole and supple leather uppers make the Mapleton a pleasure to wear as a weekend causal shoe. The Mapleton came in brown Saddlehorn leather and black Alpine grain uppers, both with nice contrast stitching. Shoe care is done with leather lotion for the brown and conditioner for the black. No polish for these causal workhorses. And yes, I enjoyed my brown enough to pick up their black counterpart when I came across a pair in my size. Now I am ready for whatever a causal weekend can throw at me.

Yes, that's very normal. Bourbon is a weird color in that it varies so much from shoe to shoe. For example, my bourbon Carlyles are much more dark than other bourbon shoes I've seen, almost like brown. In the lighter-colored bourbon shoes, I've noticed that the green tint is stronger.

A while back, I ended up ruining the very nice color on my Carlyles by using the conditioner / cleaner. I tried using bourbon polish but it has proven to be worthless. However, I recently bought some dark brown polish and I'm finding it works great at restoring my original burnish on my Carlyles. Some people use black polish, but I think dark brown is a better match.

@LeeMerrill I sort of figured you had them pegged at around the same price but was waiting for you to confirm it. Can't argue about the leather sole though - they do get torn up. Having owned so many different types, I'll say this. I find that the vtread holds up quite well. For a leather sole, anything that uses a double I have also found shows very little sign of wear over time. Danite has held up too but is just sort of too soft for me.

@catlettsl Feel bulkier? Definitely. Look bulkier? No - only thing that might make something look bulkier is a reverse welt.

Got my Neumok seconds. What do you think of the imperfection? It's not particularly deep and frankly not at all noticeable since they're a casual shoe. Any thoughts?

It honestly depends on your style. I have a pair of Meermin wingtips that are (I think) considered chestnut and that color is somewhat close to a burg/merlot. Maybe that is enough to sway you to the Strand? I would pick the Strand myself.

Nordstrom currently has walnut Strands for $260.

Here are mine. You can see on the inside of the toe cap how there is a slight indention with some creasing just passed the stitch. They were an ebay find where the creasing was already evident when they arrived, but I assume this is somewhat normal for this style.

Casual Friday? What's that? Also I'm close to finally pulling the trigger on shell. I'm thinking the cap toe boot from Alden (#8), and then maybe the Cambridge. All TBD of course but I've got shell on my mind...
