I am really kicking myself for being late to the party as I missed the Navy cornwallis by a few hours. They would havve been great for the MTM suit in Air Force blue from BB. I had just purchased a pair of black cap toe peals when I saw the email. I really do hope I can find a pair even in 2nds. I like the Cornwallis last as they fit my feet perfect.

How do I got about getting the cornwall's in cordovan shell?

I love the Kirkwood and Maritime shoes. I currently own 3 Kirks (navy, red, and the darker brown; also had the lighter color but they had to be shipped back) and 1 Maris (light brown; also sent back a pair of these). I will probably pick up a suede version during the sale... assuming I don't hold out for a B or C width Sea Island.

A question for @Burzan , @BackInTheJox , and the rest of the FBW crew:
Does anyone have any issues going sockless in these? I pretty much always wear no-shows, but on the rare occasion that I have worn them sockless the footbed (rather the 3/4 leather overlay) sticks to my foot and pulls up. My first round of Kirks/Meris did this (and dyed my socks/feet like crazy); customer service said that shouldn't happen and replaced them. Sure enough, very first time wearing the new pair sockless and I'm in the same boat. I plan to glue them down myself and hope it sticks.

Somewhat ironic since AE is really pushing the sockless trend.

Snapped a few in the wild shots while waiting for my lunch order. I think this shows the color a little better than my photos this morning.

I wouldn't worry too much. I'm sure in a few weeks/months, you'll be able to see some on ebay for sale.

I'm considering offering $150 for these walnut Carlyle 1sts with some slight color mismatch. However, these have the newer piping. I might just wait for the fathers day and June tent sale to buy a pair of seconds and ask if they have the old piping available.

I wear a thin terry cloth insole in my Kirkwoods/Maritimes. I planned for that with my sizing, but honestly I don't think I'd wear a different size of I went without them, as they're pretty thin, but very comfy when going sockless. I got them on Amazon for like $10, and they have been awesome.

Quote:I tend to go sockless with my Maritimes & Kirkwoods without problems with the footbed. No-show socks end up driving my nutty as they always tend to keep slipping down from my heels. So if I'm wearing a pair of shorts, I'll definitely be sockless with these shoes. With jeans .... I sometimes wear socks with these.

Can any of you gents compare the construction of Patriots and other AE loafers? I just received a pair of Patriots from the bank today and I noticed there's no stiffener on sides of the heel, so there feels as weak as those unlined handsewn models... I'm not sure if it's built this way or this is the defect that makes them seconds.

The Patriots is in the middle, the other two are Achser and Grayson, both are hard as rock at the heel cup.

What do you mean by hard as a rock at the heel cup? Are they uncomfortable?

Sorry for the confusion. Both of the Achser and the Grayson(and all of my other AE fully-lined shoes) have full heel cup stiffeners that make heel counter feel supportive and steady. But on these Patriots, the sides of the heel counter are not so reinforced therefore they feel very soft and not durable as other pairs... Not sure if it just happens to this particular pair or the Patriots was designed like this.

Anyway, I just paid $137 for these and I don't think I'll send them back...
