Formal dinner tonight with a bottle of reasonably priced Cava as my reward!

Not the first time or last I will post my PAs as they are far and wide my favorite of the now 10 AEs in the stable.

Wow, yours look nothing like mine, and I've had mine for well over 8 months. Did you use a lot of polish on them? Could that have contributed to this? Sorry your experience was not like mine.

Yes. $279. And at the time, list price was $385. This is a good sale they have going now, and if you have an Amex card, you can sign up for the $50 off any AE purchase offer, which would make them $225.

I remember the days (2011) when they retailed for $300 and went on sale at Nordstrom for $199. That is one heck of a price increase in only five years.

We need to bring the handsewns back from the overseas. What was Allen doing hanging out with LHO? It's terrible, ok?

We're going to make shoes great again. You're going to own so many shoes, it's incredible.

(sidenote: now, for some reason, all I can hear is the RINO candidate's voice saying, "You're going to like the way you look, I guarantee it, [ok?]") [IMG]

Maybe look at the ball of the foot and if it lines up well and fills the widest part of the shoe. Should be snug in there. For me that seems the biggest indicator of fit. I ended up being a full size down from the Brannock. Then check the big toe and heel slippage. Them the side for bowing or other weird flexing.

If all that is OK and your toes are getting pinched on the sides or the top of the foot isn't right, maybe a different last.

Ok, so every day I log on here to take a look at what all the rest of you filthy barnweasels are sharing. And, every day I have to look at the first post from @watchidiot which contains my favorite MTO in the world. That blue cordovan MacNeil. For my tastes, and my wardrobe, it's essentially the perfect MTO. Every detail is right. The exposed brass eyelets. The flat laces. The fit looks perfect. But, to me, I think the thing I like most is the use of the natural welt. I love the contrast of it on a navy shoe.

    <a href="http://www.styleforum.net/t/518090/lightbox/post/8318976/id/1996285"><img src="http://www.styleforum.net/image/id/10415603/width/400/flags/LL"></a>

Pretty much every day, I have to see this beauty. And every day, I die a bit inside knowing that I cannot have it, even when the next trunk sale/MTO rolls around. I've been tempted to make it the wallpaper image for my iPhone, but I think I might weep openly every time I take a call. I want to print it out on beautiful archival paper and frame it and hang it above my bed, but my wife already thinks I'm weird enough as it is. Plus, it would probably clash with my George Costanza "Timeless Art of Seduction" velvet painting I'm trying to commission to hang there right now. I've thought about having my feet tattooed to look just like this, but that's going too far, right?

So, in order to take my mind off the unobtanium, I try to look at other people's shoes and bring myself down from my unnatural, scortatory coveting. (Yeah, I know, it's a rare word, but totally applicable here.) One thing I've noticed recently is that more and more guys are wearing black leather shoes with a natural welt. Now, as stated above, I love the look of a natural welt with navy. Heck, I love it with pretty much every color under the sun, but I think it looks odd with black. From a wardrobe standpoint, black can be tough to pull off, and I feel like the natural welt makes it even harder to do so. Am I in the minority here? Are any of you sporting some natural on black? It's OK if you are. Just wondering.

All right, I've rambled enough. Back to your barnweaseling.

I had someone recently tell me this is starting to come into style but I have to agree, natural on black is just too strange for me. Generally when I wear black it's to dress up not dress down so to speak. On leather that isn't black I think it looks good especially as a casual shoe.
