Ah, had to go educate myself on the differences. Interesting.

Wait for the inevitable clearance sale in the fall? :D

I wouldn't drop $175 which is what my screen says. But, if they would give an introductory price like they did with the campmocs, I might consider them. I'm hoping someone else can give evidence on how they weather and I can pick them up out of season. These are far more up my ally than the CXL, seeing as how I am near a body of water about once a year.

Agreed. I love suede/nubuck, and I love the casual look. I'd much rather see a kirkwood model. But even so, $300 for a casual/sockless shoe is far too much.

Was almost 60 in Charlotte today and you guys have given me loafer fever, so I busted out the Fryes. Now I can't stop thinking about adding a loafer for the spring and damn I want a Lake Forest! Also, I think I do like the look of the Ascher and it's on clearance right now, but I never see this shoe discussed on here. I guess most of you guys really aren't down with loafers, but I'd be interested to get some feedback if anyone owns a pair.

Also, damnit those brown Kirkwoods look awesome. I picked up a blue pair back in July, but my typical AE 11D size just was just too narrow around my big toe on that shoe. I have a pair of red Maritimes (I went to a college with red and white colors) in 11.5 D and they are a tad long. I'm going to try the 11E on the Kirkwoods next time and snag a pair when they go on sale.

What other 108s do you have?

I have tried on a handful (Clifton, Mora, Vernon all in 9d), but own just one other 108 - the Carlyle in 9E (purchased nwob off ebay). What I know now, 9D might be better, at least in terms of volume of the vamp. Hard to compare 9E to 9D along with bal vs blu and calf vs cxl, but I would say the Carlyles are noticeable wider. The open lacing and the CXL of the Clark Street provide a good amount of give. I usually wear them with no show socks, but wore them today with medium weight and was pleasantly surprised with the fit.

Agreed. I know they are not recraftable, but $57 is an absolute steal.

I haven't asked, but I'm sure if I did, AE would recommend the Sea Island as a Kirkwood model. That's what I was referring to. Beautiful shoe, but not $300 beautiful.

I always hit my new boots with a couple coats of Bick 4 - inside and out. Then I wear with slightly heavier socks for the first wear or two. After that they are usually good to go. My Daltons are still breaking in, but that has more to do with my big toes hugging the edge.

Mine were pretty good from the start, but a little conditioning on the gusset to help the tongue sit right sure did help. I second the hitting of the inside with some Bick 4, Lexol or AE conditioner, if you're having a hard time.

Now I think I see what you were saying. There is a big difference between a kirkwood type boat shoe with a rubber sole and nubuck uppers, and the leather soled sea island in suede from Charles F. Stead. Two completely different animals and price ranges. The Sea Island is more like a seasonal beef role Cavanaugh with better suede.

With all the recent loafer talk, I want to bring these back up. Saw these, and REALLY like them, but they had no name, and I haven't been able to find out any info on them. They may have been a MTO. Possibly a production sample??

Anyone have a model name? or thoughts on these?

Never seen them before. I can dig them. Do you like them? If the price is good. Go for it.

Would have, but I could fit 2 fingers behind my heels on those. I'm kicking myself for not getting the numbers from the inside, but thats when I got my Chocolate Daltons for $55, and I wasn't thinking clearly.

What do you all do to maintain Strandmoks? Specifically blue if it makes a difference.

AE says Leather Lotion. Anything else? Or just that.
