There is still work to be done - the images in existing sigs are not yet linked, for example, and we are working on a way to get the images to load faster - which will improve the performance of the site, especially on the pages with a ton of images, and we will continue to work diligently on that and keep you updated.

If you're talking about that glue, I wouldn't worry about it. I've had some pieces of that glue dry out, and the worst is that you have to take your she off and shake it out. It doesn't seem to hurt the construction.

He was showing me the inside of his shoes to see if I thought it was the same stuff on the welt of my shoe (see my post above - the one he was quoting). I agree on the inside its no big deal. However on the outside I feel it doesn't look so great....

I like your way of thinking, but I do want to stay married. Seriously, I will have to take a break after my 7th this year (and I don't mean a 1 month break). I was really pleased with the first day of wearing my Carlyle's. I now understand why this shoe is so popular.

I'm now curious about the Hopkinson shoe. It seems this is very similar to the Park Ave, but using the new last it allows more room for a higher instep foot (like mine)? I'm not a huge cap toe person at the moment, but if they grow on me, I think this would likely fit me better than the Park Ave. I like the merlot color a lot.

I've got a pair of merlot Hopkinsons. It's quite dark, but that is one bad ass shoe. The PA fits me better, but when you get an Indy line shoe that is hardly worn for $85, I guess you really can't complain.

I've got some Olive Shannon Drives on butyl on the way, but I won't get to see them until Monday- they seem to have been completely obliterated from the AE site. Anyone got some real-world pix of the color? I've noticed the rough leathers don't translate well in AE photography...
I wish they'd do some kind of archive, or at least "That style is no longer available" with some basic info. I know you can often (sorta) find information on Shoebank, but it doesn't set records for usability either...

It might come off with a toothbrush. If it bothers you that much speak to AE.

The newest addition to my AE collection, First Avenue boot in tan country grain. I'm a fan of English country boots and have been eyeing AS Cambridges for a couple of months. Initially the tan first ave boots didn't appeal to me when I saw these on the AE website, as I thought the color was too light and lacked versatility. However I decided to give these a try when AE put them on clearance, and am glad I got them. The tan is more of a walnut, perhaps a tad darker. These have the dainite soles, and unlike my promontory point boots, the first ave was comfy right out of the box. These boots are seconds, and the flaw I've noticed is overzealous burnishing in a few spots. There is also some wrinkling around the ankle area (see 3rd pic), but I've wondered if the wrinkles were created by design to break in the leather, which is surprisingly supple (I'd expected the country grain leather to be more stiff, like football grain).

The first ave runs a bit long, and I had to go down a half-size from my usual 9D to avoid ugly creasing in the toe cap. I'm really enjoying these boots, and at closeout prices these are a good bargain.

@Lobster33 Ok, I'll leave you alone. When you do finally come around, please stick to either the Hopkinson, HR's Bloor Street, or the 201 lasted PA clone coming out this fall in the Usa. Based on the Carlyle pics you had, a 201 balmoral should be good. Again, smart move not going the standard route of 12 pairs of PA's & 5ths then realizing you didn't like the arch fit.

My bet is that if you tried the Hopkinson, with the independence lining, the 201 balmoral fit and being able to close the v-gap almost all the way out of the box, you'd never be able to say no.

Re: 1st ave creases: just looks like a little lower shank/belly leather. AE notoriously utilizes every last scrap of hide, even the less desireable bits. At least it's on the shaft, which will be covered by your pant leg.

Quote:I am having second thoughts about them after seeing a couple pix iafter a Google Image search - the darkness of yours is what made me reconsider cancelling the order. Seems like most are much lighter, which isn't going to work for me... Any other pix in the wild would be appreciated! :)

Walnut Wednesday. Ralph Lauren/AE Sandersons seconds. You can likely tell what makes them seconds if you look at the right shoe. Regardless, I love these shoes to death.

Truth be told, I used the AE leather conditioner and cleaner on mine and they are a tad darker after. After reading about the AE cleaning products I probably won't be using that stuff again. Anyway though mine are a tad darker now. I will try to post anew up to date pic soon.

Finally picked up a pair of Odenwald in black from the Shoe Bank. As others have suggested, I size down 1/2 from my normal size of 10.

Like the brown edging contrasting nicely with the black upper, the CXL leather is buttery, the double leather sole, and the cream colored laces make it look like vintage boxing boots. Pair nicely with tapered opening pants/denim as part of my business casual office wear.
