Wow, the sole on those has barely seen any wear. Very nice, good luck with the sale!

    Thanks!

Agreed. Looking great as always, peppercorn78!

I am now thankfully finished with my AE Shell Cordovan spring cleaning.

Burgundy Dundee, one year of wear. While I admit that I baby my balmorals, these chukkas have been through everything including salt, snow, soaked in deluges, to the point where I'm surprised that they resisted showing water welts. The shell did seem to have stained a bit, and had taken a somewhat marbleized and uneven color in parts.

While the flash makes it look worse than my eye remembers it, you can see it here:

VSC rocked the house. This time I applied three light coats, letting them sit for a half hour with the color evening out more after each coat, followed by brushing and final buffing with an AE shoe cloth:

I love their developing color. They vary from a brilliant, ruby-reddish burgundy in the sun and fade to a burgundy and finally brown (and sometimes black) color in areas of lower light. I've walked a lot of miles in these, and the double JR soles finally feel like they've broken in. They took their sweet stubborn time, that's for sure, but they are now ridiculously comfortable.

I hope everyone's week is going well, as always!

Thanks for the complements, gents! I developed a jones for black shell by hanging around the Alden thread and seeing pictures of CMTs gorgeous Indies and MDubs staggering collection of glorious black shell.

I was thinking black shell should be very casual to work, and a black boot is totally badass in an FU SWD sort of way. I was all set on getting the Alden Indy when Kristle at JVille emailed me about this pair of 2nds which is basically flawless except for some dry patches on one of the side panels (VSC took care of it).

Since I had been on a waiting list for shell Dundees in my size for almost two years, she graciously honored a previous price point, which made it a no-brainer kop. I guess buying 15 pairs from one of the best SAs in the business over the years earns you some top notch customer care. :)

PS: I still may buy the Indy or a black tanker. Just not this year.

Another pic. My wife did a crafty AE thing a while back, so I included it. Eat your hearts out... she supports my habit! (for now)

Oh snap, polojock615 in with the shelliciousness! :slayer:

I love mine. Where I once thought I'd never find the occasion to wear black shell due to my current wardrobe, I've found that I will definitely find an excuse to rock it when and where I can.

I walked over five miles in them on the Saturday before the Superbowl in San Francisco, and they felt like they became more and more comfortable as they wore in. They are starting to approach Shaker Heights comfort for me, which is a seriously hefty statement!

I need to give the Indys and the PCTs the same treatment as my AE shell, but I'm burnt out on shoe recon at this point.

Ok, NOW I have shell envy. Goodness that is incredible. Does your wife have a sister that would also support said shoe habit??? (even better if we're the same size, possible future brother in law...)

A marketing ploy IMO. In the Alden thread someone posted a newspaper ad from the early 80s advertising basically the last run of Cordovan shoes ever before the material goes out of production. We can ask our friends polojock and mdubs how that turned out!
