All These Cheap Borrelli Shirts on Ebay

Fellas...here's a close up of the collar on one of the plethora of ridiculously low priced Borrelli shirts to have hit EBay of late. Does the collar look machine stitched to anyone else? I've never seen a Borrelli shirt with a machine stitched collar. FWIW, my advice is be extremely careful with these.

The one thing that I find confusing is that Italian seller has a lot of those for BIN at $135, which is the same price that Ian sells them for. He does throw a few out there with no reserve and they go for about $55-$60.

From that closeup those buttons look very nice at least.

I agree that a lot of the trimmings look authentic enough, but there's no way to really fake the hand stitching. And, where is the little book that holds the additional collar stays and teels you who the seemstress who finished your shirt was? Dubious.

That's fake. It uses the same font as Borrelli but the tag is incorrect.

Could someone tell me how you differentiate an handstitched collar from a machine stitched one? I'm a total newbie.

From the picture, the buttons and the label don't look right.

It is quite sad that someone would go through the trouble to fake Luigi Borrelli. I mean, outside of this forum, the name is quite obscure to most everyone else. Could this be a sign of imminent ubiquity?

I don't think that's true. Borrelli is all over NYC for example and has a store right in front of Barney's - that's quite visible.

And has been featured in fashion magazines. And commands good money on eBay. I have no idea if these are fake, but the impetus is surely there for someone to sell fakes.

By the way, did anyone check out the article in Fortune this week on New Balance and "third shift" overruns? Fascinating.

I know nothing about this seller and it can be very difficult to draw definitive conclusions from pictures. But one thing that gives me pause is the size tag. Without rummaging through my shirts, it seems to me that all the Borrelli size tags are green on white and say Made In Italy where the tag attaches to the shirt. This tag looks more utilitarian--which must be seen as a strike agains authenticity, I think.

They are real i bought 3 shirts from him. Hand Stiched button holes, hand stiched buttons in the crows foot stitch, hand stitched gusset and hand stiched sleeves. The things that don't have hand stiching are the collar and the cuff (at least it doesn't seem so when comparing it to my Finamore shirts). I don't think he would fake a borrelli shirt with all that handwork and he was also selling barba shirts which i doubt very many people know about. When i last talked to the seller it was because he had two accounts and he said one is his cousin and ones him (obviously) and they are affiliated with both factories but didn't go into detail. But these shirts as far as i can tell are real. I was worried to as it was a different label but the 3 i have are all excellent.

Are all borrelli buttons exactly the same? The ones I have, even a polo shirt use the same really thick MOP button. The buttons on that shirt look thinner than usual.

I have also never seen a Borrelli without a hand-attached collar, and I agree that the one shown looks like it was done by machine. I'm actually wearing a borrelli polo right now that's made of a pique fabrique but has a contrasting cotton collar attached by hand.

On the whole it's difficult to tell because the resolution isn't quite high enough.
