All of my jeans are 1.5" too wide in the waist and good on length/hips

Hi friends ! May I have your finest advice please :)

All of my Levis, about 4-5 pairs, are sitting good on the legs, but a belt is needed to keep them high on the waist. It will never "fall to my knees" even without a belt, but they will drop to the "teenager low cut" level if I remove the belt.

With a nice belt, it sits just fine for the entire day and I never have to mess with it.

Question is simple... Do I take it to a taylor and risk half assed jobs and angled pockets from the narrowing, or is it perfectly normal to use the belt as utility and not just fashion ? There aren't any good ones around. All of the previous pants I took to have narrowed I hated. They angle the rear in this odd way that ruins the "look" and also lowers its durability. so it's either belt, or mail-out the jeans to some pro.

Buying the next size down on these Jeans means the legs will be too tight, so the best I could come up with is buy 38/32 and have belt hold it high up on the waist.

Thanks :)

Also - in that picture - is the belt a bit on the short side ? could it do with another couple inches ?

Belt is fine. It should fasten around about the middle hole, just like in your photo.

If it bugs you, perhaps try another belt that has a bit more extra after the last hole.

I usually size down on jeans but I have skinny legs and a smallish posterior.

I think as long as they catch on your pelvis/hips and look good on your backside with no sagging etc, then a bit of gape at the waist should be OK, especially on jeans with a higher rise.

If you do decide to have them tailored, try to find a specialist in denim. I know a very good one here in the UK if that's of any use.
