Is anyone familiar with the 87D last? I have two pair of Peals made by AS (I think). One says 87 and one says 87D. The 87D is much wider. However, I can't find any information on the 87D last, nor on whether D is somehow a width designation.

Pictures to show what I mean here:

    87D (wider):

Also sad to see AFPoS leaving. Was looking at some AS's, and now I'm not sure if I can get still them from England.

D is the width designation. Depending on the welt, the width and sole length can vary greatly (e.g., 270 vs 360).

The 87 I think is rounder and fuller than the 99. Note this is just from looking at shoes as I have not personally owned the 87 (I do have boots on the 89 but I don't know if they are associated).

Thanks, that's what I thought. But seems odd that D is their wider fit. It also must be due to my lack of sufficient Google skills, but I can't find mention of it anywhere.

I find the regular 87 just a tad too narrow for my liking, so I'm probably not a good candidate for the 99.

I doubt D is their wider fit but some of their lasts are more generous (e.g., 724, 89) compared to others (e.g., 106).

How is the 724 last compared to CJ's 348? More generous? Higher instep?

I don't own any C&J shoes so I can't make any comparisons there. I wear a 9D on the Alden Hampton last and the AS 724 UK 8F fits me perfectly.

Just want to preface that between brand lasts are always tricky but from my personal feel, I would say the ball of the 724 is more generous then the 348. I don't notice much of an instep difference. The best way I could describe it is the 348 is a slim fit whereas the 724 is a straight fit. :D

Gosh, those are nice. I like the subtle sweep-back brogue. Would definitely get a pair of these in oxblood.

    Yes, this stinks.

Hopefully it's a sign they are going to be availble in the States sometime soon.

However I do imagine this means they will cost more as well.
