I've seen items on Sierra Trading Post by Alfred Dunhill. Is Alfred Dunhill the same as Dunhill, like the store on Fifth Avenue in NYC? If not, what type of brand is it?

One and the same. I've heard mixed responses but I believe Stu bought a dunhill blazer and liked it. The jackets I've seen in person have been pretty nice.

I like my made in Italy Dunhill stuff. Light padding, very nice feel to them when wearing.

I got a Dunheel (Dunhill, Alfred Dunhill, and Dunheel, in this context, are all the same) suit from Sierratradingpost. It's made by Zegna, and quite good in my opinion. Very comfortable.

Nice global luxury brand, not a lot of personality. They deal with good makers. There was some late 80s merger or deal in NYC between Alfred Dunhill, which was originally a tobacconist of course, and the venerably classy Dunhill Tailors. This was the resolution of a trademark dispute. Shirtmaven or the search engine could tell you more.

Alfred Dunhill as a firm used to have a great personality.

The primary question was whether the Alfred Dunhills at STP were the same as the British luxury brand Dunhill. As far as I know, they are the same. Dunheel is a styleforum bastardization of referring to Dunhill, started by a rather interesting Frenchman. Hence, in the context of me speaking about the brand, was all referring to the same thing. As for the Standrews/Zegna, I believe that changed something like five years ago. Dunhills would be a bit of a bargain if it was rebranded Standrews. Also, I was in their NY store this weekend, and I noticed that they were selling New & Lingwood Russian Reindeer Calf shoes for something like $1500, which I didn't know they made RTW. It was pretty cool.

New & Lingwood has not been known for their bespoke shoes since Cleverley & co. left around 1991. Their Russia calf shoes are sold at a huge markup and made, I believe, to benchgrade standard by C&J. Cleverley gets right of first refusal on the hides, which Cleverley only uses for bespoke. The surcharge for Russia calf from Cleverley is only a few hundred dollars -- nothing like the thousand-dollar surcharge N&L wants on its RTW.

Hm. I guess I've been had. These things happen. He had me at hello.

I actually didn't know about the long history, but that makes sense.

As for the reindeer calf, why could Dunheel not use their own label, but stick with N&L? Is it something that N&L brand insists on being exclusive to them in RTW and no one else?
