I've never used Alden's restoration service. The soles of my Brooks Bros/Alden loafers are looking pretty gnarly. Is now a good time to send them in for a full restoration, or would something less involved suffice for now?

Ah, that explains the lack of responses. I wound up sending the shoes in but curious to hear everyone's thoughts:

IMO send them in when the sole has developed soft spots. Replacing the heel lifts is easy and can be done by your neighborhood cobbler. Condition of the stitching doesn’t matter much.

They're probably close to the end of their sole life judging from the stitching wear, but the best way to check is to run your thumb firmly along the sole and if it really sinks in, you know it's about to develop a hole.
