Someone said that Jcrew alden doesn't look like that IRL.It is much darker,I think gnatty even posted a picture. Do you mean whiskey cordovan or are you just referring to colour?

If I'm remembering correctly, Gnatty's are the dark brown version that J. Crew is also offering.

The tobacco appears to be the proper color for a longwing, but it is the wrong leather. For calf, pebble grain leather combines with fiery chestnut to =

They are double,I guess edges can be darked. This is the classic model, according to Tom.

That is a great color, and I have an old pair of Dexter longwings that are/were a similar tan calf that I love, but if you are spending as much as the Aldens in calf, I'd save a bit longer for the shell cordovan. Shell ages and patenas in a way that calf just can't, it's well worth the upcharge.

While I agree that the dark sole is more traditional, I love the natural sole on both of these, the whiskey longwings are just perfect.

I have whiskey Alden longwings. It is difficult to describe how much more beautiful they are than tan calf. They develop a depth of color and a lustre that really makes them glow--and with time they get more beautiful, while my calf ones get less so. Calf Aldens are nice, but for that price, save your pennies and get shell. Any time you see whiskey longwings from alden, I'd pull the trigger. Had to source a used pair and it took a long, long time.
