Thanks, would a 10 in AE's translate to a 10 in Aldens?Originally Posted by edmorel
I find that I need to go down 1/2 a size in the Aldens and the Aldens made for Brooks Brothers.
So typical sizes for me now are: US 10.5 (AE etc), Aldens 10 or even a 9.5 in Barrie last, 9.5 in some CJ and 9 in CJ 348, either 9 or 9.5 in CJ 337 (depending on whether I plan to wear them with thin or thick socks).
For comarison, the Zegna monkstraps (I got from you) in zegna 9.5 are a little snug width wise, but ok length wise. They will open up just fine.
I would try the Aldens in 9.5. Think they must also have nice cork underbed that molds to ones feet and the volume in teh shoes opens up a little.
BTW the MOST comfortable pair of shoes I have ever had were a pair of Alden Welterweights. I must have resoled them two or three times. With those shoes, I really did walk miles and miles. The two strikes against Alden are 1) not so chiseled lasts, but still, somehow these shoes look very balanced and 2) stitching is visible on the soles-unlike handgrade CJ. In terms of solidity of construction, I think they do a VERY good job. A midway between the city CJ and their heavier country CJ cousins.
I am waiting for a new shipment of their cordovan loafers in my size.
