The initial 5 means the shoe was made in 1985 or 1995, I believe. The H could mean 8th month, i.e., August. Since I can't find this style on the usual online sources for Alden, I would guess it was not made in 2005.

The last I can't say from that one photo. It's not the plaza though.

The model number is 638 - it's either a discontinued model or it was a special makeup for the store. If you send a polite email to alden with that number, they can determine what last it was made on.

Just got email back from the factory. Very nice of them to look this up, proves that Alden really does care.

If this description matches your shoes, I can only tell you it was discontinued before I joined the Company in 1986. Therefore your shoe was made at least 22 years ago.
