Some of you guys are fucking unbelievable. I'm waiting for someone to suggest a class action lawsuit against Alden because we all had to look at the shoes. Does it suck? Sure. And Moo is being offered a full refund. Another member chimed in that Alden can fix these through a refinishing, most likely free of charge. Remind me, if I ever open up my own business not to sell to you guys! [IMG] I don't make a snippet of what some of you guys do on here, so for me, $500 shoes are a HUGE deal, but when you're dealing with a rare product that is NOT easy to work with (stitching as well as staining) you have to expect a higher percentage of maker mistakes. I haven't noticed anyone complaining about their Alden calf make ups, so to me, if you can't figure out that this unique type of leather is VERY difficult to work with, then I don't know what to tell you.
but see thats not our problem (the hard work with leather), they need to deal with it, its like getting a faulty Ipad, will apple go on and tell you how hard the metal is to work with, no and thats not your concern, Apple will replace it and same with Alden, the point is that if you put out a product put out a quality one otherwise just dont make it PS: $500 shoes are a big deal anyday... thats a lot thats why the quality has to be outstanding

at the end of the day it is your money/taste and you need to buy what you like not what the peanut gallery says but I would advise taking a good, long look at how and when you would wear those and make sure they work for you as part of your wardrobe.

You sew pants as a hobby, that doesn't make you the King of Taste. Lighten up.

If you saw his sportcoat collection, you'd probably realize that he is in fact, the king of taste.

I, for one, like them and would be very bummed if I got these. I can easily see these working in my wardrobe as I live in New Orleans and saddle shoes are quite common and popular down here with warm weather attire. I think they are unique.

The damage is done... I still see them when I close my eyes...

As long as Alden offered to exchange them for free (shipping included) I would not get bent out of shape. I don't mind human error as long as the person making the error corrects it - as a mentor of mine told me, "Don't run away from problems, run towards them." And I'd be surprised if Alden didn't make it right, something that in this day and age is not a common thing, no matter how high the sticker price is.

Ask for partial refund and keep the shoes, polish them with dark brown wax and try to make them both look the same.

I am one whom, doesn't mind spending whatever on myself ( I know I deserve it ), however I expect to receive what I pay for. I'd send them back with a nasty note and a follow up call, raising hell. and I would certainly call the president of Alden, and also raise hell along w/ an e-mail w/ the pics. ( I always believe in making complaints, starting at the top, and skip the small change at the lower ladder positions.

lighten up, francis. raising hell does not solve anything and the only thing that comes out of it is someone's gonna look like a self-entitled douchebag. in any case...

Leffot is upstanding and is offering a full refund for all fees.

    problem solved.

everyone's entitled to their opinions and they don't need to be judged.

Sorry, but those could pass for clown shoes, especially with the two shades.

I was very happy to see a box from Leffot this morning, with Alden's shell/calf saddle shoes inside.

That is... until I put them on.

How can Alden possibly not notice the multi-shade difference in the shell color between the two shoes?

So now I am stuck with either keeping these, or sending them back for a refund. But I love the design and there is not another pair in stock. [IMG]

I may be done with Alden...

Perhaps at Leffot they had 2 different pairs in 2 different colors, and maybe one of the workers mixed up the pairs and put them in the wrong boxes.

Perhaps they had the right shoe on display and over time perhaps near a light, or under strong sunlight caused the right shoe to lighten, while the other shoe was in it's box.

If you guys hate Alden then don't buy Aldens!

BINGO! The MOST likely explanation, for me, would be that somebody at the store put the shoes back in the box incorrectly.

No one's saying a production should be without defects. Some of the stitching or the scratchy eyelet stuff is harder to detect, but that kind of color difference takes 2 secs to notice. The fact that their QC let that pass is the issue. They're either borderline incompetent or even worse, they think that kind of shit is acceptable and let it pass to see if they can get away with it.

    That is ridiculous.

Damn. For real. I won't complain about AE ever again! I am waiting for NYR to defend this.

I think it's actually far more likely that there's a natural variation in the leather. I've seen many many many pairs like this at the Alden SF store. Aldens should be purchased in person!

I'm confused - doesn't Alden have Horween tan the cordovan to specific colours? Why should there be such a distinct variation between the two?

We're talking a difference of at least 2-3 shades or depth of colour.
