I wouldn't send them back to Leffot. Alden can fix those. I once had a pair of #8 shoes with one lighter than the other. I purchased them that way, at a discount. Alden charged me a small fee to fix them. They turned out perfect.

If I had purchased them for full price, I would have demanded that Alden fix them for free, since they are no longer available. Maybe go through Leffot for this resolution, but if you really want them, they can be fixed.

those just came out at leffot, im sure he paid full price and full price better be perfect

    Couldn't pass as seconds.

no doubt, I have seen plenty of seconds, and nothing comes close to that. even as seconds they are not close to acceptable.

I'm still thinking there is like a 10% chance of this being a photoshop

Different strokes for different folks, ed. I love em.

at the end of the day it is your money/taste and you need to buy what you like not what the peanut gallery says but I would advise taking a good, long look at how and when you would wear those and make sure they work for you as part of your wardrobe.

Wow. That's really bad. I would send them back for a full refund. There are plenty of other companies that make nice looking saddle shoes.

On a separate note, this thread made me glad that I decided to go with AE for my #8 cordovan longwings.

I was just looking at those on Leffot. That's not cool at any price but for $550+tax/ship, that's disgraceful. It's insulting that Alden QC didn't stop these from being shipped out. WTF did they think? That no one would notice or care? Send those back and I hope you get a refund for your shipping too. These posts are making me gun shy when considering Alden purchases.

I'm surprised Leffot didn't send them back themselves.

Then again, I doubt they necessarily go through each delivery shoe by shoe.

So the shoes don't need to go through Leffot's quality control? And they just sent without inspection?

Would expect nothing less than for Leffot to act as they did and offer a full refund.

But would it even be possible to correct this kind of color mismatch, and ever have it come out exactly right?

Similar thing happened with Leffot's recent NST Tankers with the natural sole edging. Alden did the lower sizes correctly, but the higher sizes came with black edging. I seem to recall [IMG] making the comment that Aldens were more "honest" than other makers. I think that's true, and I'm OK with small imperfections. However, the issues I've seen lately with both my own purchases and other's is just plain incompetence at the factory level.

Doesn't light change the color of #8 shell ... looks like one shoe might have been in a display for awhile.

I would send those back and ask Leffot to pay shipping both ways.

Return for full refund. Don't bother with getting Alden to fix it. What if the fix treatment wears off in a year? Send it back and look for something else. I can relate to the distress that you went through when you opened the box and the urge to keep the shoes despite the obvious defect. I one got a pair of Alden perforated tip lace ups in cordovan # 8 from one of the Alden retailer's online store. There wasn't a color difference but the finish on the cap toe of one shoe was matte and dull whereas on the cap toe of the other shoe it was the typical shell shiny finish. I kept the shoe and three years later after a few hours of brushing and buffing it is not very noticeable but I can still see it. And every time I see it I tell myself I should have returned it.
