Are you referring to boots or shoes? For shoes - I do think that the sizes have changed a bit. Look for an earlier post from me for more details.. I don't think you can directly compare boot fit to shoe fit.

I was thinking shoes. Your post got me started on rationalizing the whole thing.

I've worn Modified shell in a half size smaller as a first pair, but subsequent pairs in shell and suede have proved a little too narrow at the pinky so I had to sell them and move a half size up. Weird.

I usually take 11.5B TTS. The 11C Modified is a perfect fit. Bought my first pair this year though.

Looking good. I have a pair of these (from Moulded Shoe, right?) in my rotation.

I like these boots although they're not my favorites and I'm not sure why. I think it's the neo-cork soles. I was looking forward to these as most of my boots/shoes have leather soles and I thought this would give me another inclement weather option. I think it's the neo-cork soles that have a level of heft and weight to the boots that haven't won my love. Might consider having B Nelson resole them with commando or straight leather.

    Hi Folks,

I have a wide 10.5 foot. For instance some AE EEE's dont fit (not wide enough) such as the McNeil.

I tried on the 10.5 Alden Longwings Es which feel decent but have been hesitant to pull the trigger.

My question: how much wider are the Modified Lasts versus the Barrie Lasts? I need to get by Moulded Shoes in person...

    Thanks

The Modified last is . . . different. Definitely the most comfortable for me. They were snug when I started and have loosened up just a bit. But the narrow waist really hugs your instep, so I have not noticed any slippage or discomfort.

That being said, the best bet is to pay a visit to the shop. That's what I did.

    ^^^ Very nice.

Still looking for a few good men who are interested in a Kudu Indy on the Modified last. Please PM if interested. They will be on the Commando sole if Alden will agree otherwise the cork neo sole.

Wow - I visited Moulded Shoes in NYC for the last time last week and bought a pair of Alden Captoe #8. I have wide feet and high arches that are a bitch to fit. These are the best fit I have to date. I expect going forwards I will stick to the modified last.

Moral to my Story: if you have hard to fit feet and live around NYC, go visit Moulded Shoes and see what they have for you. They specialize in hard to fit feet. They know their feet - the guy looked at my foot about 5 seconds and said you need an extra wide Modified, and he was spot on.

Also, if you go there, please ask them to carry the Alden Long Wing in the Modified Last. They used to carry it but stopped. Apparently interest is building in the Long Wing. We just need some momentum to get them to order a run!!! I think they are the only Alden distributor in the US allowed to carry a good selection of Modified Lasts, if I understood them correctly.

One question: has anyone seen any other shoe makes that have anything comparable to the Modified Last?

The guys at Moulded are pretty good, yes. And you don't have to live in the NYC area to visit. I'm no where near there but still managed to make it in for a fitting.

There has been some discussion regarding the Carmina Rain last and some similarities to the Modified.
