You live in Brooklyn. Get on the train to Manhattan and try on some Alden shoes so you can be certain of your size. try Moulded Shoe at 10 East 39th, the Alden Shop on Madison around 43rd street, Citishoes on Park around 56th and probably half a dozen others. Once you know your size, you can order with confidence. It probably makes sense to try on some shoes in the same last as the ones you like from A of C. And you may find something you like to buy. All of the stores I mentioned have special makeups too.

Ron Rider, Martegani's N. American representative, provided the opportunity this summer to order MTO shell cordovan shoes. I didn't think of a monk chukka at the time or I would have ordered one, but someone on the forum ordered a pair, perhaps Tom W. Ron was very accommodating, told me I could order basically anything in the Martegani archive in shell cordovan, and worked with me to design a replica of the whiskey/mahogany Alden Fan shoe posted above (I thought A of C had discontinued it and/or there was a prohibitively long wait for whisky shell). He also sent 2 different sizes of try-on shoes on 2 different lasts (4 pairs, total) at no cost. I believe Ron may make a similar offer again sometime this Fall, depending on the availability of shell.

I'm the future recipient of the monk chukka from Ron. In navy shell.

Courtesy of Leather Soul Hawaii. Astonishing. If I had $600, these would be at my house yesterday.

If someone else did not buy the only pair of size 12's, these would be at my house yesterday.

Im glad I saw this thread because I was going to just buy some Alden boots and get my regular size (9.5D). Thats a pretty big discrepancy between 9.5 and 8.5. I wear 9.5D in everything from vans, chucks, purcells, asics, and even red wings. Im sure they know what they are doing but I would still get the 9's.

FWIW, I wear a 9.5D in all of those shoes, including the Alden Barrie last. I can also fit the Barrie last in a 9E. A 9D is too narrow, however.

I have the shell chukka in cigar and in #8. I typically don't wear them with suits, although I do wear the #8 with a suit when its raining, as it has a commando sole. I only wear a suit about twice a month, however. I definitely wear them with odd trousers and jackets, which I wear the rest of the month. I love them and echo everyone's praise.

I bought mine today so they'll be at my house next week.

All joking aside...I was powerless when I saw the pic of the Aberdeen last wingtip boots on LeatherSoul's website. I emailed Tom immediately. Incredible. They look dark, edgy and elegant all at the same time.
