I've been on the hunt for a dark brown Alden wingtip blucher for a while now and
the only ones I've come across are the ones at Alden of Carmel. The thing is they have
the "commando" sole on them. (Seems like many of his Aldens do.)

These soles are pretty nice in my experience but are they make the shoe
too casual to wear with a suit?

I would not wear a commando sole with a suit.....maybe with a really heavy cloth.

Regards.
PS. I have a personal bias against rubber sole dress shoes.

It would depend on the weather, the suit, and the occasion.

I wouldn't, absent inclement weather, but if you like them go for it.

I don't think the sole will make or break your outfit. I mean, it's not like we're talking about Dr. Martens BEX soles here; Alden's "commando soles" are still pretty damned low-profile.

I think you're thinking too much.

I wear mine with suits during inclement winter weather. The sole is not really noticeable, especially when standing.

Totally agree. I have a pair of double souled longwings and wear them all the time with suits. I think it looks just fine.
