As for the boots I am not sure how I feel about the speed hooks or whatever. They can and have ripped off of the shoe. My understanding is that this may be more likely on cordovan.

^+1 I'm not a fan of speedhooks on my Aldens either. They catch on the hems of my trousers, nearly tearing them and/or tripping me. They also bend out of shape quite easily in my experience--I expect I'll have to replace speedhooks long before other aspects of the shoes need maintenance.

^^^My speed hooks have stayed intact on even my oldest pairs of boots with them; however, I do have the occasional problem of my hems getting caught on them. It only happens with a few of the pants I have, nonetheless it's annoying whenever it happens.

Shoe Mart doesn't have the suede boot, only the shells.

Those look great. The front of the boot is very similar to the RL Gifford.

Just called today. They're down to a single pair of Ravellos in 11.5D; have about 4 pair in black; and none in #8. More Ravellos are on order and expected circa March 30, and the #8's are ordered but still a long way from arriving.

If I ordinarily wear an 11D, would I go for 10.5D if these are Barrie last?

Tom at Leather Soul used to carry these without the speed hook

I agree with the speed hook comment. I have boots from Carmina, and the hooks sometimes catch the inside of your trousers

I think without the speedhooks, they are too much of a pain to get in and out of. I've tried on a pair that is my size, but I have to unlace the top few eyelets just to get in, then relace to tie up. no thanks.
