Is there ever a sale or discount on these? Any stores that sell below retail?

Thanks

My local cobbler sells AE & Alden for 25% off MSRP, so yes.

You can get the unlined version at Brooks Brothers, often on sale. I got mine for <$300 due to a very confusing set of discounts.

The dealer near me doesn't discount. Are there any online dealers that do? Brooks Brothers is tough as most of their discounts exclude cordovan shoes in the fine print.

The Shoe Mart offers Alden "seconds". Call them with your size and they will send you an email about every two months with (only) your size shoes.

I purchased a pair of 986s a year ago for about $369. They had a couple of scuffs, but nothing that wouldn't appear after a few wearings anyway. I presume that the standards are very high for regular-priced cordovan, so even the faintest blemish is unacceptable.

They're nice shoes, but I'm glad I didn't pay full price for them, and certainly wouldn't in the future.

loafers, even shell, will fetch low prices on ebay. if you can wait till a pair comes up, you are almost guaranteed sub-400. if not, then...

Not that it is material to the discussion, but on reflection I realized that the shoes I mentioned above were Color 8.
