Albert Thurston Sizing Question

I feel embarrassed for asking about what should be a pretty straight forward sizing exercise...but I am curious how to properly size Albert Thurston braces.

I used tailor's tape in the method described on AT's site, using my Tuxedo trousers and came up with 44 1/2" from front waist band to back waistband (at about where the braces buttons are)

SIze large is 44", so my question is the large adequate for me? It is obviously about 1/2" short, but I know the braces are adjustable. I just don't know if AT measures them to their fullest or not.

By the way I am 5'10 and trim so I figured I would need size M as I am not that tall (or big) and was surprised to see I need a large.

Any help would be appreciated.

I had the same problem. I used a measuring tape and thought 44" or a large would work (by the way I am about 5'10" also). When I tried them on I wish I ordered the mediums but that may be because of my torso size. The people at Thurston said that the barathea are easy to have a tailor alter so that is what I did. The boxcloth are a little long but I like the look of the fabric hanging below the waist.

I'm 5'9" and quite trim. The Mediums fit me - just; if I'm wearing high-rise trousers I find they're really a bit big (brass buckles essentially sitting on my shoulders).

You can also shorten boxcloth with a pair of scissors. Just use the half-moon snipped off the end as a guide to get the right shape.

I should have added this is for a pair of formal braces, not boxcloth, so I won't have the luxury of cutting excess length.

It sounds like even though I meaure to a 44 or L, based on my height and weight, I might be better off with a Medium.

I am 6' 4" and I also wear the mediums with brace-rise trousers. I even think these are too long sometimes. I have no idea who the longs are for, unless for the extremely corpulent.

Do they make them in smalls?

Also, Thurston only sells multi-fit online. Aside from ASW, anywhere else to get sized ones?

No, Albert Thurston will also make them in Medium or Large sizes. I think the "multi-fit" size is really just a Large anyway. I think their braces are all MTO.

Just send them an email when you've completed a transaction with the details and note your specifications. I've done this twice and it's turned out exactly as I wanted so far (though I'd really prefer it if they made them in S size).

On the road, but I wanted you all to know they will make it in a size S (it is 38 inches).

Hope to receive it soon from England.
