Even the people at Airbus will admit the A380 is by no means a pretty airplane on the outside but the inside has the capability to be stunning (as Singapore Airlines has pulled off).

Here she is when I saw her at Dulles in March-

Are the wings really going to curve that extreme to the extend the tips of the wings bend all the way past the top of the fuselage? A little disconcerting to me.

Probably not, they did the same thing with the 787 promotional photos, I'll see if I can find the specific one I was thinking of where the wings were drawn flexing so high they were above the fuselage. In reality, the wings will probably never withstand that kind of stress, but for example with the 787 the wings are capable of something like 150% the amount of stress they would encounter in actual flight; Boeing engineers say it's almost impossible to snap the wing in a flight situation. There's a Youtube video of them doing a test at the factory with either the 777 or 787 wing and it's amazing.

Either way, nothing to be worried about, just an exaggeration in drawing. The wings will not encounter that much stress in flight.

Edit- here's the photo I was looking for: http://www.boeing.com/commercial/787.../k63304-3.html .

I like this style of plane, the Boeing 307 Stratoliner Clipper Flying Cloud. I recently saw this one at the Air and Space Museum annex out at Dulles. It is stunning. It conjures up images of 1930s movie stars taking fantastic voyages.

+1, rdawson. I had a great time photographing her in the museum, the polished fuselage created some stunning effects. A beautiful aircraft.

Holy thread revival Batman, but the airplane reminds me of these lyrics:

fly the ocean in a silver plane
see the jungle when it's wet with rain
just remember till you're home again -
you belong to me

She is a beautiful airplane, especially the 727-200.

I'm more into the newer airplanes, only because I don't remember the older aircraft. I was born in 1991 so I wasn't really around during the 707, 727, DC8 age, but I still go out of my way to look for one around the airport when I am out there. I love seeing them!

Long live the classics

Hope this picture comes through-one of my dad flying-back in the day.
