I have been looking at eBay for Oxxford suits. How can I tell that I am buying a reasonably up to date suit. Is it from the model# or the look? Need some help. Thank you.

Even brand-new Oxxford suits look old, so it's hard to say.

They are very, very conservative suits.

Rather a basic question - you cannot tell how old a suit is from looking at it. It could be brand new but could in a very old fashioned manner.

If you insist on being second hand clothes then surely the appearance and condition are relevant not the actual date of manufacture?

You can determine a few things about oxxford depending upon what info the ebay pictures might provide. It is easier to place their "lower" line either oxxford crest or now the 1220. I am not up on the exact dates that the oxxford crest line started and ended, nor am I up on when 1220 was introduced (fairly recently). I would imagine forum members will know more however, this will help if it is crest or 1220. I also believe the "highest quality" badge was recently added on their standard level suits, but again there are others on the forum who may be able to help you out if you can provide some of these details.

Unless you are very, very familar with the brand, this is a hopeless exercise.

Generally, you can get an idea from the pictures.

My advice is to buy from a reputable buyer with an excellent return policy. See how it fits and whether your local tailor can make alterations without having to re-cut the suit.

Good luck.

You can tell from the tags, the model, and the lapel/notch placement.

LOL.

I tried online to find some kind of serial number guide so that I could precisely date that suit, but I could never find one. Either way, there is not doubt that sucker is from the early to mid-60's based upon lapels alone.
