I'm looking for an affordable tie to go with my first business suit (critique thread with pictures to follow). In (or for delivery to) the UK. Any suggestions on where to look for something nice but good value?

For establishing a business wardrobe you can't get much wrong with T M Lewin. 3 ties for £66, 4 shirts for £90. If you have some fairly simple cufflinks then you can have 12 shirt/tie combinations for £156.

With that option your small wardrobe means that you can go two full weeks without wearing the same combo twice.

However some combos won't work so you will have fewer acceptable combos unless you pic your 3 ties and shirts very carefully.

I've a couple of ties left in my clear-out sale. Link in my sig. The first 3 ties are sold pending payment, and the fifth wouldn't be any good for you, but the fourth would be OK for work if you're not in an intensely conservative field, depending on the colour of your suit.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
