OK, I just posted in the v neck sweater thread, and obviously the v neck is a staple. However, I am looking for a v neck or cardigan which is very fitted. All the v neck sweaters I own are cut straight up and down, and I have trouble finding one (or cardigans) which have a bit of taper or narrow at the waist.

The only cardigan or v neck sweater I've found which is fitted and at a reasonable price, is American Apparel's cardigan. The cut is quite slim and trim, however, I was very disappointed with the quality of the buttons. They are transparent, tusk colored buttons which look like generic buttons found on any polo shirt. It really threw off the entire look of the sweater, which otherwise, looks pretty good.

I'm thinking the cut of v necks in general is not quite tapered since they're often meant to be worn over a button shirt and tie, but nonetheless, I'd like the option of a fitted v neck sweater for a little versatility when I want to throw one on over just a t shirt. Affordable recommendations?

If it really tapers wouldn't it tend to ride upward from the bottom?

I don't think so, because most female sweaters are tapered and that doesn't seem to be an issue for them. Depending on your size ac, that might be an option.

I would recommend H&M sweaters. Most of them seem to fit pretty slim and they're definitely affordable. J. Crew sweaters can fit fairly slim as well if you size down, and quality-wise, they are better than H&M and AA. If you can get a hold of a buying service from Japan, then look into Uniqlo as well.

My favorite cheap sweater right now is a light gray V-neck from Zara: made in Italy, wool, close-fitting, and bought on sale for about 10 bucks.
