I ordered some NEW 1st quality AE Bradleys in Shell Cordovan a few days ago. They were advertised a burgundy. I received them and they are actually brown. There is no hint of red/burgundy in the color. I have experienced AE shell shoes, and they are usually pretty red compared to these. The model number matches up with the burgundy model on AEs website. I am going to keep them because I got a great deal and I wanted some brown shell. But is this normal? Has anyone noticed AE shell shoes being particularly brown?

+1.

These are my AEs in #8, but shell has a certain amount of variability in color.

I recently got a vintage pair of Alden shells and when I first saw them, I thought they were something other than #8. But researching the other common colors like Mahogany and Ravello, they are neither of those. They are just a lighter batch of #8.

They do appear more red in the pics. Under natural light, they are straight brown. The eBay seller still has some in 9D for $240 BIN shipped. (I got 30% cashback though). He got them to me in 2 days.

I don't think they are #8? - they are very brown. I figured cigar or something. I have MacNeils in #8 that look totally different.

They're your shoes; I only have them in black. But they look, in the pictures, well within the normal range of variation for #8.

Fair enough, I will have to check when I get home. I have black too.
