OP: Have you considered simply speaking with AE? I'd bet they will take care of it with out question.

+1............This is not even an Allen Edmonds shoe. If it is, what style, when did you buy it, can you post a picture of the shoe with the AE markings?

prediction: after this thread extends to 10+ pages of good old fashioned flame troll it will come out that

1. he weighs a lot
2. he has been wearing shoes too small for years
3. he stepped on something sharp while walking in the rain. he knows what happened but doesn't want to talk about it.
4. and one bonus secret I can't predict.

I call BS on the OP. I am heavy and very hard on shoes. I have AE's that I've had for almost 20 years and they look nothing like those posted by the OP.

He just doesn't have anything better than to try and stir up crap.

I commend the above referenced post. Eztantz, you've got a pair of clankers claiming you did this to these shoes in one month. If, in fact, it is true that you owned these shoes for one month and did what your pictures show see one of the above choices. Let your conscience, if you have one, be your guide. I have Allen Edmonds leather and rubber soled shoes that have literally been around the world with me. From the sleet and snow of the northeastern U.S. Winters in and out of airports to Lisbon in June, with just minimal care they can last for a lifetime. If this is truly what you do to shoes you need to see a blacksmith pal.

I was looking at the OP's location thinking that he may be in Rio or someplace in Brazil where he would use those shoes daily for street soccer.

Or else, he must have been backpacking in those shoes to achieve that rapid a wear.

Or, do what many here have done. Buy a shitload of different shoes and wear each pair once a month at most. And always use shoe trees.

I'll agree with the shoe tree part of this but strongly disagree with the rest of the bold part of this statement. It sounds more like clever marketing that's been accepted by many as some kind of fact.

To the poster from Crane's, no doubt you know your business but I've read similar comments for years. Marketing? Perhaps, but I believe the rational is to at least let the sweat from the days wearing naturally dry and the shoe trees to keep the shoe in the shape it was constructed rather then shrink slightly as it would dry without trees. I do and have, worn some of my shoes form days on end without rotation. (Especially if I've been on the road.) But in general my Allen Edmonds, Aldens, Heinrich Dinkelacker. Vass, Crockett and Jones, Church's, etc. etc. etc. have all get a dy "rest" between wearings and two or three pairs have lasted me twenty plus years and still going strong. I appreciate your opinion but since you strongly disagree with this please let me know the limits, if there are any, (in your opinion) as to how many days one should wear their shoes in a row. I mean are you advocating purchasing a pair of shoes and wearing them every day 365 days per year? Granted, (to your point) this may be more clever marketing but here's just a partial list of those who recommend rotating one's shoes. Some of these listed do not market shoes,... (Under "Common shoe care facts" the first point listed) http://www.shoeandfootcare.com/main-shoe-care-facts.htm (Under "Rotate wear") http://suityourself.com/man_shoes.asp (Tip #2) http://www.nushoe.com/ShoeCareTips.pdf (Tip #3) under Six Shoe Care Tips) http://www.soresouls.us/ShoeCare.html (The second tip listed) http://www.villageshoeservice.com/shoecaretips.html (Step #5 under Instructions) http://www.ehow.com/how_3392063_care-leather-shoes.html (Tip #5) http://www.frugal-living-tips.com/shoe-care.html (The first item listed under shoe care tips) http://www.golfshoesplus.com/Care.htm (Forth bullet down under shoe care tips) http://mjjshoerepair.com/ (Number 11 under "Your footwear care")http://www.shoestyles.co.nz/shoes/shoe-care.html (Seventh item down under shoe care) http://www.cinders.ie/shoecare.html\\ (this thread in Styleforum) http://www.styleforum.net/showthread.php?t=39588 I could have sited a few more but I think you get the idea. Best regards,

No I'm not advocating wearing them 365. I don't see any reason why they can't be worn 3 to 5 days in a row unless they get wet of course. I have done this for years, like you have, with no ill effects at all.

127.72,

I'll edit my response to comment on your additional content.

If we lived in a perfect world the advice found in your links would be the way to go for getting the absolute longest life out of a shoe.

However we do not live in a perfect world. In general products are designed with this in mind. Back in the day it was not uncommon for a person to own only one pair of boots or shoes and they were worn in much more abusive environments pretty much daily. They didn't fall apart in a month or two. Why? Were people more conscious about maintenance? Better materials perhaps?
