I am thinking it's ideal for slacks, shirt and jacket. The cap toe and medallion makes it a bit more formal, but the color and fact that it's a blucher brings it down enough that it can be easily pulled off, IMO. I'm less convinced I could wear it with chinos. I really hope to though - I need a versatile shoe. What say SF?

I have the Sanford in bourbon and burgundy and it is a very versatile shoe. In that color, you could wear them with almost anything - even jeans if worn with sport shirt and jacket.

The most worrying element of this is the statement that you 'need a versatile shoe'.

It sounds like what you need most is more shoes.

Some people would wear a shoe like that with jeans on the weekend, at this point, I wouldn't, but that's because it doesn't match my personal weekend style, not because it looks bad. I would wear it to work with chinos on a more casual day without question. Colour will look terrific.

I'm wearing my black sanfords right now. I usually wear them to work with a pair of slacks or chinos. I've worn them with a pair of plain, dark slim-fit jeans before when i'm going for a dressier look, but usually prefer not to wear black with my jeans. They are a very versatile pair of shoes IMO.

Maybe the cap toe makes it more formal, but I would say the medallion makes it less so, and more like a wingtip.
