The 9.5D feels a bit tight in the toes. Not extermely painful, but tight enough that they will probably hurt if I walked in them for extended periods of time.

So what do you guys think? Will the 9.5D stretch enough to comfortably accomdate my feet? Or is it more likely that the loose heel in the 10D won't be an issue after they're broken in? Or should I just give up on the 8 last altogether?

People don't usually go down a half-size when switching from the Park Avenue to another last, like the #8. For example, 8.5D fits me well in the Park Avenue, but I'd go with 9C in almost anything else.

Heel slippage, for me, is often a question of width, as my heels especially are rather narrow. I'll agree with boo about trying a 10C.

Ooops

All I can recall for sure is that it was a wholecut-like design and on an 8 last.

Maybe you're thinking of the old #8 last? The Moras are definitely bigger than the Park Avenue. There was a thread on AAAC where a couple of people recommended sizing down 1/2 going from #5 to new #8 last.

Also, if 10D fits fine in the ball and toes, wouldn't 10C be too tight? (ie same problem as with 9.5D) Maybe I should try 10.5C?

Eh, what do I know?

You're right. Size 9 is too long for me in that last, too.
