Amazon is very generous with its sale price. I am blown away.

I have no familiarity with the latter brand but the Neumora is a solid shoe for the money.

Personally, I prefer the styling and finishing on the PS. IIRC, the prevailing wisdom is that PS shoes are made by Loake to their highest standard.

I've had a pair of Neumoras for about 7 or 8 months and havent had any problems with them--same quality as my other AEs.

I think this decision really comes down to styling and which you prefer.

I have owned a pair of Neumoras for so long I can't recall exactly how long. Never an issue with the buckles - or anything else. And there's no uncertainty as to who made them or to what standard.

As others have said - buy the pair you like best and don't worry about the buckles.

I believe the Newbury are made in Spain (so Magnanni?) so it is a whole different beast. The Newbury is longer, has cleaner lines, and softer leather. Juxtapose that to AE shoes which feel sturdier, be goodyear welted (not sure how the Newbury is constructed), and thinker uppers. The fit will also be very different between the two. Best bet is to try both on and see which fits best.

Unfortunately, I don't live close enough to a place where I can try either of them on. I suppose I will just have to order both and return one.

    Thank you for the help.

I'd go with AE on this one. When I was at PS in NY, all of the sub-$500 dress shoes they had were Spanish-made with very pointy toes. The shape presented fit and aesthetic issues. If you're looking at PS, try to get their English or Italian (don't recall seeing any Italian shoes in their current lineup but I know they've had them in the past) shoes on sale.
