Long branch is a pretty casual "dress" boot. Brown I think fits the formality better, unless you really just want the black. I only have four black boots out of thirty or so; Fifth St, Liverpool, shell HM, and an Alden shell chukka

I agree with this. The black version to me seems almost like it can't decide what it wants to be. Its a fundamentally dress-casual design and the black is just trying to dress it up in a way the laces, brogueing, etc don't want to be.
