Folks,

What are your views on these shoes with regard to casualness and versatility? I don't wear suits, casual stuff like denim, cords, chinos etc. Mainly black, blue, grey, sand/beige.

Cheers

I own the delray so I’m a bit biased, but I vote for the AE. I like the lighter colored midsole on the AE and think it lends itself to a more casual look.

If you're going to go for a split toe in this price range, I think you'd probably get better value for money with Sons of Henrey, Carmina, or Carlos Santos. I have the Carminas I linked and they're my favorite pair of derbies.

Thanks. I'll look into Carlos Santos but the linked shoes don't do it for me. Different strokes for different folks I guess.

I don't like how thin the seams are on the AE's, which puts it in an awkward spot between casual and less-casual. Notice most split toe derbies have nice beefy seams, including the SL ones you linked, which puts it squarely in the smart-casual range you're looking for.
