I think they would look good with khakis or jeans.

However, you might also consider checking out Rockport.

I have a pair that look very similar and they are extremely comfortable.

E has a solid selection of very plain, rubber-soled dress shoes. My favorite was the Globetrotter.

How about those as an alternative?

The Belmont has a different sole than most rubber soled shoes. I have a pair and they are like a standard leather sole in construction and feel. Maybe the rubber is bonded to a leather sole?

For my casual days I wear the Kennet and Stockbridge models neither of which are still made, but both are fairly common to find new on eBay (often direct from AE). These are not as clunky as the Commuter yet still have lots of cushion for long days on your feet.

How do you prefer trousers to be finished?

  • Plain hem

  • Cuffed (1.5 inches or less)

  • Cuffed (more than 1.5 inches)

  • No preference, as long as the proportions work
